King Chavez Instructional Aide Position
An Instructional Aide acts as a facilitator, using interactive lessons and discussions using “hands-on” approaches to help students learn and apply concepts in core subjects. Thinking outside the box using “manipulatives” to help children understand concepts, solve problems, and develop thought processes to meet the California Content Standards. Lessons are creative, interactive, and sometimes may even include games especially for second language learners.
To encourage collaboration in solving problems, students work in small groups to discuss and solve problems together. Students are placed in homogenous groups based on initial assessments in the beginning of the school year and are moved to flexible groups based on performance and daily assessments as needed.
Daily communication is necessary between the Instructional Aide and the classroom teacher to maintain the timeline of benchmark standards that have been chosen for the school year. All teachers involved are cooperative and collaborative regarding the goals of every student.
Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
• Assess, record and maintain records of diagnostic testing
through out the school year for all students.
• Organize and maintain a list of target students that have the
ability to go above and beyond the proficient level.
• Maintain an on-going list of students that need pull-outs/interventions based on special needs to achieve learning goals for first and second grade.
• Responsible for creating all benchmark tests for each
grade level.
• Responsible for planning grade curriculum map for the
school year.
• Responsible for ordering yearly curriculum materials and
textbooks.
• Provide teachers with support, materials, and
manipulatives as needed.
• Design and create worksheets, games, and materials that will
assist in learning benchmark standards.
• Consult with principals, lead teachers, and staff members
about processes of improvement.
• Ability to analyze data and plan short and long terms goals
for improvement.
• Ability to maintain flexible schedules and provide supervision
outside the classroom.
• Create Wiki sites to improve communication with teachers
and support staff.
Additional Responsibilities Include:
STAR Coordinator:
• Responsibility of securing, taking inventory, and
accounting of all testing materials.
• Maintain a yearly binder of all assessment results, copies
of all affidavits, and test reports filed with the district since
2005.
• Prepare and organize testing schedules.
• Train and prepare teachers, proctors, and classrooms for a
safe and secure testing environment.
• File individual student assessment results into CUM file.
