Job Summary
The Instructional/Personal Care Assistant - Special Education assists a certificated teacher in providing instruction and care to individuals or small groups of students with severe physical disabilities and/or cognitive delays, monitors and reports student progress regarding behavior and performance, and performs a variety of other instructional support duties as assigned. Please note that individuals who work in this assignment have responsibility for assisting severely handicapped students with personal needs (e.g. tube feeding, suctioning, toileting, diapering, positioning and/or mobility, social skills, etc.).

Requirements / Qualifications
Six months of job-related experience working with children is required. Experience may be paid or volunteer.
Valid First Aid and Adult CPR certification(s) from an accredited organization such as the Red Cross or American Heart Association. Online First Aid certificates are acceptable, however, CPR certificate must include "hands on" classroom training. If you do not have valid certification(s), you may submit certifications to a test proctor if you are selected to move forward in the testing process. Certifications must be submitted by the date scheduled for the Qualifications Appraisal Interview.

Examination Process: Completed applications are reviewed and candidates who meet the minimum qualifications take an online multiple choice exam (math, English, writing), weight: 100%.
The competitive basis for this recruitment is Open/Promotional-Dual Certification. Candidates who pass all exams are placed on an eligibility list in order of overall exam score. If a candidate has taken the multiple choicetest for this San Dieguito Union High School District job title or similar job title within the past two years, candidate may be able to transfer the score to this recruitment. Employment with San Dieguito Union High School District is contingent upon successful completion of post-offer background check, fingerprinting, physical exam including tuberculosis, drug and alcohol screening, and an Oath of Allegiance.
The probationary period for a new or promotional employee is six months or 130 days of paid service, whichever is longer.
