Position Overview

The Weekend Lead Teacher serves as the primary classroom leader and operational support for weekend programming. This position combines the responsibilities of an Assistant Teacher and Floater by providing direct classroom leadership while remaining flexible to meet the changing needs of the program throughout the day.

The Weekend Lead Teacher is responsible for maintaining safe supervision ratios, supporting children's learning and social-emotional development, ensuring classrooms remain organized and responsive, and providing leadership to support staff. This role requires the ability to confidently transition between classrooms, make sound decisions independently, and uphold Kindred Learning Center's standards when administrative staff may not be immediately available.

This is a hands-on leadership position requiring strong initiative, adaptability, sound judgment, and the ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced environment.

What to Expect in This Role

Weekend programming is dynamic and requires flexibility, strong leadership, and excellent situational awareness. Staffing levels, classroom groupings, and daily needs may change throughout the day.

In this role, you will regularly:

  • Lead classroom operations while supporting multiple age groups as needed
  • Move between classrooms to maintain supervision ratios and operational flow
  • Step into classrooms mid-activity and immediately provide active supervision and support
  • Support children through emotional regulation, behavioral challenges, and transitions using positive guidance strategies
  • Balance supervision, engagement, documentation, cleaning, and operational responsibilities simultaneously
  • Lead classroom routines, transitions, meals, and daily activities with confidence
  • Adjust plans in real time based on children's needs, staffing changes, and program demands
  • Assist support staff by providing direction, coaching, and immediate problem-solving throughout the day
  • Communicate important information to Directors regarding incidents, concerns, staffing, or operational needs

This role requires strong emotional regulation, adaptability, professionalism, and the ability to confidently lead with minimal supervision.

Employment Details

  • Hourly Position
  • $19.00–$21.00 per hour (based on qualifications and experience)
  • Reports To: Directors

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Current enrollment in the Oregon Central Background Registry (CBR)
  • Pediatric First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Oregon Food Handler Card
  • Completion of all Oregon-required trainings
  • Maintain a minimum of 15 hours of annual professional development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a licensed child care program
  • Experience leading classrooms or supervising teaching staff
  • Strong knowledge of child development and positive behavior guidance
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt across multiple age groups
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide primary classroom leadership during weekend operations
  • Maintain active supervision and child safety at all times
  • Ensure required supervision ratios are maintained throughout the program
  • Support curriculum implementation and developmentally appropriate learning experiences
  • Guide children's social-emotional development through responsive relationships and positive guidance
  • Lead classroom routines, transitions, meals, and daily care activities
  • Assist with classroom setup, organization, sanitation, and closing responsibilities
  • Provide short-term coverage across classrooms as needed
  • Coach and support weekend staff while promoting teamwork and professionalism
  • Respond to behavioral, staffing, and operational needs in real time
  • Maintain accurate attendance, required documentation, and incident reporting
  • Communicate important concerns or incidents to administration promptly
  • Follow all licensing regulations, center policies, and health and safety procedures

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently bend, kneel, squat, crouch, twist, and reach
  • Lift, carry, and safely move up to 50 pounds
  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the day
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Actively engage with children during play, learning experiences, and daily routines

Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
