Job Summary:
The Pediatric LPN will provide direct patient care to children requiring tracheostomy, ventilator support, and G-J tube feeding in a home health, hospital, or clinical setting. The nurse will work closely with registered nurses (RNs), physicians, and respiratory therapists to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and manage tracheostomy and ventilator equipment, ensuring proper function and patient safety.
- Perform suctioning, oxygen therapy, and airway clearance techniques as needed.
- Administer medications and treatments per physician orders.
- Manage G-J tube feedings, including formula administration, flushing, and troubleshooting complications.
- Assess and document patient condition, including vital signs, respiratory status, and nutritional intake.
- Educate and support families on trach, ventilator, and G-J tube care, emergency procedures, and daily management.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Respond to emergencies, including trach dislodgement, ventilator alarms, and G-J tube complications.
- Maintain infection control standards and ensure a safe environment for the patient.
Qualifications:
- Valid LPN license in the state of practice.
- Experience with pediatric trach, ventilator, and G-J tube care (preferred, but training may be provided).
- CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.
- Excellent communication and family education skills.
