Medical Assistant Job ResponsibilitiesClinical SupportPrepare patients for psychiatric evaluations by obtaining vital signs, weight, and health history.Assist with mental health screening tools and patient intake questionnaires.Document patient information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).Support the NP during procedures such as medication injections (e.g., long-acting antipsychotics), ensuring proper preparation and documentation.Monitor patients post-injection for side effects or adverse reactions.Maintain awareness of psychiatric medications, side effects, and patient safety precautions.Administrative DutiesSchedule, confirm, and manage patient appointments, including follow-ups and telehealth sessions.Verify insurance eligibility and process authorizations when required.Handle patient check-in/check-out, collect co-pays, and update demographic/insurance information.Manage incoming phone calls, emails, and messages from patients, pharmacies, and referral sources.Process prescription refill requests under NP supervision and coordinate with pharmacies.Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA standards.Patient Care CoordinationProvide patients with instructions regarding medication adherence, lab work, or follow-up visits.Coordinate with therapists, primary care providers, and other specialists as directed by the NP.Support crisis protocols by promptly alerting the NP to urgent patient concerns.Assist with referrals and completion of forms (e.g., FMLA, disability, school/work documentation).Office & ComplianceMaintain exam rooms and clinical supplies, ensuring cleanliness and readiness.Track and order medications and office supplies.Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and office safety standards.Participate in staff meetings, training, and quality improvement activities.
