Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Director of Food Safety and Quality is responsible for leading all aspects of Food Safety, Quality Control and Sanitation functions at The Killer Brownie Company. This role ensures all company products meet or exceed food safety standards and regulatory requirements.
In this position, you will develop, implement, and maintain robust food safety systems and lead the Food Safety, Quality, and Sanitation teams and foster a strong culture of food safety excellence. You will develop, implement, and direct food safety processes and systems to ensure production of safe, consistent, high‑quality products that exceed customer expectations.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in developing and maintaining quality programs in food manufacturing, with a deep knowledge of food regulations and guidelines. This role provides strategic and hands-on leadership to maintain compliance with FSMA, FDA, SQF and customer requirements while fostering a strong food safety culture across the organization.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Oversee food safety and quality assurance programs, including HACCP, allergen management, environmental monitoring, foreign material control, hold and release, product traceability/recall readiness programs.
- Execute food safety and sanitation initiatives in alignment with organizational goals.
- Serve as the subject matter expert on food safety regulations, trends, and best practices.
- Provide direction, leadership, and mentoring to the Food Safety, Quality Assurance, and Sanitation departments.
- Maintain and continuously improve food safety documentation and record‑keeping systems.
- Create and update the quality control program to ensure products meet the highest quality standards.
- Oversee, improve and maintain the Food Safety Management System (FSMS), including food safety fundamentals and the food safety plan.
- Organize and lead an annual management review of the entire FSMS.
- Oversee and ensure compliance with FDA/FSMA, local/state regulations, and applicable global food safety standards (SQF).
- Oversee Kosher certification with the certifying body and ensure databases are current with new ingredients and products.
- Lead the sanitation strategy including SSOP development, validation and verification.
- Analyze sanitation performance and environmental monitoring data to drive risk-based performance.
- Lead the development, implementation, and documentation of food safety, GMP, and quality training to ensure employee awareness and compliance.
- Analyze customer feedback and product non‑conformance to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Implement and maintain a quality management system that captures non‑conformance, corrective actions, and preventive measures.
- Conduct risk assessments and root cause analyses for food safety incidents.
- Oversee the supplier verification program and approve suppliers.
- Drive continuous improvement through data‑driven decision‑making to enhance food safety programs and mitigate risk.
- Prepare and present monthly reports on food safety compliance, initiatives, and key metrics to senior management.
- Ensure the product retention program is maintained.
- Facilitate food safety team meetings.
- Stay current on industry trends, emerging risks, and technical developments
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in food science or related scientific field
- Certifications in HACCP and PCQI and experience with SQF audits
- Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive Quality Assurance leadership experience in the food manufacturing industry.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Proven track record of managing food safety and quality assurance programs
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and develop relationships across multiple departments

Salary : $120,000 - $140,000
