Position summary:
The Diesel Technology Professor is responsible for instructing a cohort of students over one academic year (Fall, Spring, Summer) in courses pertaining to obtaining a certificate or degree in Diesel Technology.
Position responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging instruction in diesel technology courses, including but not limited to engine repair, diagnostics, electrical systems, and preventative maintenance
- Oversee an advisory committee made up of industry partners
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and update curriculum materials, instructional resources, and assessment tools to meet industry standards and educational objectives
- Design and implement hands-on training activities in laboratory and shop settings to reinforce theoretical concepts and develop students' practical skills
- Provide academic advising and support services to students, including career guidance, program planning, and referral to support resources
- Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory requirements in diesel technology to ensure program relevance and effectiveness
- Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and professional development activities to contribute to program improvement and faculty development
- Engage in outreach activities to promote the diesel technology program, recruit students, and foster partnerships with industry stakeholders
- Perform other duties as assigned in the fulfillment of the community college mission and purpose
- All full-time faculty are required to complete online course certification through the KC Faculty Innovation Center within their first year of employment.
Minimum Position Requirements:
- Associate Degree in Diesel Technology, Automotive Technology, or a related field preferred
- Industry certifications such as ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) are desirable
- Experience working in the diesel industry, with expertise in diesel engine repair, maintenance, and diagnostics
- Prior teaching experience at the post-secondary level preferred, with demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical concepts and engage diverse learners
- Preference will be given to applicants with an associate’s degree and teaching experience
- Proficiency in using instructional technology and learning management systems to support teaching and learning activities
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment
- Be able to deal professionally and courteously with a diverse student and employee population

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office and classroom environment with hands-on labs.
- Limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.

- Compensation for this 10.5-month position is based on years of teaching at institutions of higher education, and highest level of education. Base pay for no experience ranges from $49,061 for an associate's degree to $60,54 for a doctorate. Overload and summer classes are paid separately.
Kilgore College does not participate in the federal Social Security program.
