Key Responsibilities
- Patient Assessment & Care: Conduct thorough assessments, identify patient needs, and create customized care plans. Continuously evaluate and adjust care based on patient and family feedback.
- Documentation & Communication: Accurately document care and treatments in a timely manner, ensuring detailed, clear records in the patient's electronic medical record (EMR). Communicate effectively with team members to support collaborative care.
- Environment Management: Prepare patient rooms, maintain a clean and organized work area, and ensure that all equipment is appropriately sanitized and stored.
- Medication & Treatment Administration: Administer medications following the "5 Rights of Medication" (patient, drug, dose, route, and time), perform phlebotomy and IV insertions, and collect lab samples safely and efficiently.
- Patient Education & Support: Provide patients and families with education on treatment plans, medication, and equipment use, fostering a supportive care experience.
- Leadership & Team Support: Monitor patient flow, prioritize high-risk patients, and support Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) with questions and guidance. Assist other clinical staff as needed.
- Facility Operations: Participate in opening and closing procedures, manage inventory, and support weekly equipment maintenance.
- Must be physically present in the clinic for all duties, including patient care, CPR, and emergency procedures.
- Requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, perform moderate to heavy physical effort, and be adaptable to standing, walking, and assisting patients for extended periods.
- Must have sufficient sensory acuity (vision, hearing, touch) for patient assessment, equipment monitoring, and emergency response.
- Flexible with evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as necessary to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Proficient in electronic medical record (EMR) systems
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Compassionate and skilled in providing patient-centered care, especially in a fast-paced environment
- Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing program
- Licensure: Current valid state license to practice nursing in Virginia
- Certifications: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required
- Experience: Minimum one year in pediatric nursing; experience in Emergency/Urgent Care is highly preferred
