KIDD Machine Works is a family-owned machine and fabrication shop seeking a Human Resources Manager to support our team of approximately 40 employees. This hands-on role manages day-to-day HR operations while working closely with company leadership to maintain a positive, compliant, and productive workplace.
The HR Manager will support both shop-floor and office employees and play an important role in recruiting, payroll administration, employee support, and maintaining HR processes that help the business run smoothly. They will champion a positive workplace culture by fostering open communication, building strong relationships across the shop, and ensuring HR practices are carried out with care and clarity.
We welcome experienced HR professionals who may be returning to the workforce after time away and are looking for a meaningful role where they can contribute to a small, collaborative team.
Key Responsibilities
HR Operations
- Maintain employee records and HR documentation
- Administer benefits enrollment and support employee benefits questions
- Manage onboarding and offboarding processes
Compliance & Policy
- Help ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws
- Maintain and update HR policies and employee handbook
- Support safety initiatives and employee training programs
Recruiting & Hiring
- Manage recruiting for shop and office roles, including developing accurate job descriptions, posting positions and coordinating interviews
- Support hiring managers in identifying and selecting qualified candidates
- Coordinate onboarding and new hire orientation
Payroll & Administration
- Process payroll using the company payroll system
- Track timekeeping and ensure accurate payroll records
- Support PTO tracking and leave administration
Employee Support
- Serve as a point of contact for employee questions and workplace concerns
- Assist supervisors with employee documentation and communication
- Help promote a respectful and productive workplace environment
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of HR experience required; experience supporting hourly employees and/or working in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Working knowledge of employment law and HR best practices
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- HR certification (PHR or SHRM-CP) is a plus
- Experience recruiting skilled trades is highly valued
- Ability to work effectively with both shop-floor employees and leadership
