What are the responsibilities and job description for the Day Camp Director (Bowling Green, KY - Summer Season) position at Kidcam Camp Programs?
Kidcam Camps is looking for a Summer Day Camp Director to lead the operations of their seasonal, 10-week, summer program in Bowling Green, KY located at Western Kentucky University.
Position Overview: The main function of the Kidcam Camp Director is to oversee the daily operations of the summer camp program, while leading and engaging the staff & campers in a fun & safe environment. The camp director is also responsible for organizing and conducting events, recruitment & training efforts prior to the start of camp, and closing all end of the summer records.
Pre-Camp Activities (January-May, up to 60 hrs)
Partner with Kidcam Basecamp (Corp Office) in the recruitment, interview, hiring, and position assignments process to build a strong camp staff.
- In coordination with the Regional Manager, ensure all counselors & staff are fully trained and empowered in their position and understand their role in the camp operations.
- Participate in the Director’s Retreat (January), pre-camp director training calls, staff engagement activities, open house/parent nights, and camp readiness (camp set up, purchasing, and facility coordination).
Camp Responsibilities (May-August)
Accountable for all daily operations, logistics & finances:
- In coordination with your leadership team (office manager/program coordinator), manage purchasing of food, equipment, and other needs for camp operations.
- Manage weekly staff payroll, schedules, and make adjustments based on the needs of the camp.
- Oversee facility relations, safety & maintenance
- Manage all staff, parent, and camper communications & incidents.
- Conduct weekly staff evaluations to adjust for developmental and program expectations.
- Camp close out including camp breakdown, facility walk through, staff final evaluations, camp close out documentation, and basecamp close out call.
- In partnership with the camp program coordinator, implement a weekly schedule of solid programming using a curriculum based on weekly themes and activities.
- Demonstrate your creative problem-solving skills as you juggle competing priorities and anticipate the needs of your camp community with agility and positivity.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred, but not required.
- Per ACA standards, minimum 25 years of age by start date. (other leadership positions available)
- Experience in education, recreation, camp management, social work, psychology, or other related and applicable field.
- Experience in managing and supervising employees. This includes young adults (high school, college, etc.).
- First Aid & CPR Certified (Basecamp will coordinate certification prior to the start of camp as needed).
- Experience with Microsoft 365 and basic computer skills with applications such as Word, Excel, Email, etc..
- Ability to learn and manage the Kidcam Camp Software System (this will be included in pre camp training).
Key Competencies:
Ability to oversee camp operations, staff development, facility relations, and parent engagement to ensure camper safety and a meaningful camp experience for campers, parents, and staff.
Calm under duress and able to make critical decisions in a quick and logical manner to minimize risk and ensure the safety and well-being of participants and staff.
Ability to collaborate with and cultivate a team of 10-50 summer staff, coaching them toward success. You’ll be a supportive manager with high expectations, providing feedback on classroom instruction and behavior management, while thoughtfully pushing your team to greatness in ways that have a ripple effect.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions: Must be physically and mentally able to meet the challenges of navigating and working in destination based facilities. Remember, this is SUMMER camp - ability to adapt to heat conditions is important.
Compensation: Competitive salary, commensurable with experience.
*Outside of Bowling Green area, living stipend could be negotiated.
