Compound Pharmacy Technician

Required Credentials

  • High School Diploma, minimum
  • One year prior related working experience and/or Pharmacy Technician Certification are strongly desired
  • Must maintain all State Board of Pharmacy license requirements
  • Must have advanced training in compounding or willing to attend offsite training
  • Preferred Experienced with Pioneer Software
  • Must not appear on the OIG Exclusion List

Essential Functions

  • Compound individual non-sterile preparations under the direct supervision of a Staff Pharmacist and/or the Pharmacist-in-Charge.
  • Learn and maintain all systems for preparations and quality control of individual non-sterile preparations.
  • Provide regular feedback to supervising Pharmacist on ways to improve systems for preparations, quality control, and safety.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to preparation formulations in order to increase compounding efficiency and consistency while maintaining the highest level of quality.
  • Implement and maintain systems for training compounding technicians in general compounding policies and procedures.
  • Assist other compounding team members in meeting preparation demands, ensuring quality control, and maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures and recommend any improvements.
  • Support all facets of operations as necessary to ensure high quality customer service, safety, and effective workflow within the organization.
  • Perform all job duties in accordance with all company policies and procedures and SOPs, USP 795, and NABP and ACHC accreditations.

Additional Responsibilities

  • All compounding will be done using good compounding technique and good lab practices according to company policy and USP 795.
  • When working in the lab, all compounding staff will adhere to all safety guidelines including, but not limited to, lab coats, gloves, protective eye wear, and masks.
  • Recommended changes or improvements in preparation formulas will be put in writing on the formula worksheet and given to a pharmacist for review.
  • During compounding, packaging, and labeling, all individual preparations will be clearly identified by having either a lot label or formula worksheet attached to the preparation.
  • All general compounding technicians will give the highest level of attention to preparations they are compounding and remain constantly focused while they are compounding, in order to ensure high quality preparations and maintain a safe working environment for themselves and others.

Physical Requirements (if Applicable)

  • Prolonged standing
  • Continuous, concentrated mental and visual effort to plan and perform work
  • Work involves slight physical risks that require following basic safety precautions
  • Moderate lifting is required
  • Physical handling of containers used during the prescription filling/compounding process

Pay: $35,000.00 - $42,000.00 per year
