KeyStaff’s client, a distinguished multi-service law firm with over 65 years of experience, is seeking a Legal Finance Associate with experience in the legal industry, preferably within a mid-sized or large law firm. The ideal candidate will have five or more years of accounting and/or finance experience, with progressively increasing responsibilities. Candidates should have strong proficiency in Aderant Expert, along with excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Overview:
This position is responsible for assisting with accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance while serving as a backup for payroll processing. The ideal candidate brings legal industry experience, strong accounting expertise, and deep proficiency in Aderant Expert.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Accounting
- Assist in overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, trust accounting, and month-end close.
- Support preparation and analysis of financial statements, variance analyses, and management reports.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, firm policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
Legal Finance & Practice Support
- Leverage deep understanding of law firm financial structures, including billing, collections, timekeeping, and partner compensation models.
- Collaborate with attorneys, practice group leaders, and administrative departments on financial matters.
- Monitor and analyze realization, utilization, and profitability metrics.
Payroll Support
- Serve as backup for payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Assist with payroll reconciliations, reporting, and audits.
- Support payroll system implementation or upgrades, including testing, data validation, documentation, and post-implementation support.
- Partner with HR and IT teams to ensure seamless integration between payroll, timekeeping, and financial systems.
Systems & Technology
- Utilize and maintain Aderant Expert for financial, billing, and reporting functions.
- Assist with system enhancements, process improvements, and documentation of financial workflows.
- Troubleshoot system issues and coordinate with vendors as necessary.
Process Improvement & Compliance
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.
- Assist in developing and maintaining financial policies and procedures.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of sensitive financial and payroll information.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in the legal industry, preferably within a mid-sized or large law firm.
- 5 years of accounting and/or finance experience, with progressively increasing responsibility.
- Strong Proficiency in Aderant Expert.
- Demonstrated experience supporting payroll operations and acting as a payroll backup.
- Experience participating in or supporting a payroll system implementation or major system upgrade.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and law firm accounting practices.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
