The responsibility of the press helper is to follow the instructions of the assistant and operator to learn the proceeds to produce high quality printed materials, according to the daily production schedules and client specifications.
Press Helper Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist the printing press operator in setting up and running the press
- Load and unload paper, ink, and other materials onto the press
- Perform routine maintenance on the press
- Mount printing plates to press cylinders.
- Ensure that the printed materials meet quality standards
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area
- Performs tasks within acceptable limits for quality, quantity, sanitation and timeliness of completion, paying particular attention to prevent and eliminate costly errors.
- Checks and inspects material received from prior operations to verify accuracy and conformance to customer's specifications.
- Prepares make-ready for upcoming jobs such as staging material for upcoming jobs
- Learns basic machine operation.
- Play an active role in the maintenance and cleanliness of the assigned press and surrounding area
- Understand department communication systems, schedules, time/attendance system and job reporting requirements
- Good attendance is a MUST
- All other duties as assigned
- Ability to read and understand a job ticket, layout sheet, artwork and other specifications.
- Previous printing/press experience on a sheet-fed press is encouraged
- Must possess the ability to operate basic hand tools.
- Familiarity with various types of printing presses and related equipment
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Able to as part of a team
- Able to multi-task and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Must be authorized to work in the United States and successfully pass a comprehensive criminal background investigation.
- Flexible to work overtime and weekends as needed
- High school diploma or equivalent experience preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience in production environment a plus
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs at times
- Required to bend, reach, and move about the facility
- Required to stand for long periods of time, bend, reach and move about the facility
