Reports to: Program Director/Executive Director
Summary:
The Resident Advisor (RA) plays a critical role in supporting and guiding adolescents at Key Healthcare. RAs are responsible for ensuring a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for residents, while promoting positive behaviors, emotional growth, and social development. Working closely with clinical and therapeutic teams, the RA assists with daily living activities, program adherence, and the implementation of treatment plans. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to supporting adolescents in a healing environment, and the ability to model appropriate behavior and coping strategies.
Qualifications:
· A minimum of five (5) years of driving experience and at least six (12) months of experience in the field of chemical dependency/substance abuse/psychiatric setting or human services field is preferred.
*Current RADT Certification or willingness to obtain upon hire* or Cadc
· Valid California Driver’s License.
· Ability to build rapport with clients.
· Ability to work as a team member and have management, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work under stressful conditions and be flexible about department needs.
· Ability to multitask.
· Knowledge of Electronic Client Medical Record.
· Demonstrates Proficiency in Verbal & Written Communication Skills.
· Knowledge of State & Federal Statutes Regarding Patient Confidentiality Laws.
· Knowledge of Drug-Free Workplace Policies.
· Knowledge of Workplace Violence.
· Knowledge of current utilized technology.
· Competency must be established upon hire and maintained annually in the following:
- Urine Drug Screens
- Vitals
· Must be physically and mentally able to assist in an emergency.
· Must have a TB screen, Health Screening, CPR/First Aid Certificate
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
· Responsible for understanding company policy and procedures, protocols, and employee handbook.
· Ensures compliance with facility rules, schedules, and expectations.
· Supervises and follows rounds protocol, ensuring resident safety, security, and well-being, and completes documentation promptly.
· Assists residents with daily activities, including meal times and maintaining cleanliness in personal and communal spaces.
· Helps residents navigate routine activities, such as group sessions, recreational activities, chores, and therapy appointments.
· Monitors behavior and interactions between residents, intervening when necessary to prevent conflict or de-escalate situations in a calm, therapeutic manner.
· Maintains utility ready type of business casual dress code.
· Assists with admission and discharge processes
· Conducts random UA’s and room searches
· Transports clients to and from clinical, medical, and other appointments as the needs arise (shopping, meetings, etc.)
· General maintenance duties as assigned by Supervisor (environment of care, vehicle maintenance, etc.)
· Arranges housing for new clients, including proper intake procedures and communication with the Admissions team for coordination, assisting with transitioning clients to another level of care.
· Assist in facilitating group activities, educational sessions, and recreational programs to promote emotional and social development.
· Promotes a favorable/positive work atmosphere.
· Attends in-services and educational training as necessary and as assigned.
· Maintains flexibility and adaptability to expected and unexpected changes in the work environment.
· Maintains safety of the physical environment.
· Communicates professionally with proper use of telephone etiquette.
· Understands and adheres to legal guidelines about client confidentiality and client rights.
· Serves as a positive role model for residents by demonstrating respectful communication, emotional regulation, and healthy coping mechanisms.
· Responds appropriately to medical emergencies, behavioral crises, or safety incidents, according to facility protocols.
· Documents and reports incidents of behavioral concerns, including conflicts, emotional distress, or physical altercations, to the appropriate staff members by program policies and procedures.
· Maintains accurate, timely, and confidential records of resident behavior, incidents, and progress, following organizational and legal protocols.
· Communicates effectively with residents, their families (when appropriate), and treatment teams to provide updates and ensure continuity of care.
· Performs duties independently, taking a proactive approach to problem solve situations, seeking supervision on an as needed basis.

· Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including clinicians, therapists, and other staff members.
