QUALIFICATIONS:This position requires command of the English language; also requires knowledge of pertinent academic areas and learning situations, general needs and behaviors of students and student recreational activities.
Must possess the skill to understand and carry out oral and written instructions in an independent manner; understand the need of high school students and effectively relate to these needs in a learning or recreational situation; learn the requirements of the students in the specific learning program to which assigned; analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action; supervise students in a variety of situations.
Must have ability to operate standard office equipment including typewriter, copy machine, tape recorders, projectors; establish and maintain accurate classroom records and files; establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assist physically handicapped students in feeding needs including lifting; assists; physically handicapped students in toileting needs including stall positioning, lifting, garments, and cleansing.
assist in supervising students to maintain an effective learning environment; noting behavioral problems observed; assist in organizing learning and/or instructional environments; setting up materials for daily activities, maintaining neat and orderly classroom/instructional areas; administer and correct daily assignments, homework, etc.; assist in establishing and maintaining informational and operational records and files; assist in developing goals and objectives for each student according to curriculum and /or program requirements and in conjunction with certificated staff; confer with teachers regarding students' progress, program evaluation, problem areas, etc. and assist in development of lesson plans; assist in supervision of students during lunch hours, travel, and recreation periods; assist instructional personnel with mobility training activities; assist; teacher(s) in instructing students in various learning situations including basic academic subjects, vocational activities, self-help, social integration, etc.; implement learning situations which may include individualized instruction; creating learning centers, and/or researching instructional programs for the specific needs of assigned areas(s) of instruction at various sites and training stations; prepare instructional materials for use in instructional activities; makes copies, gathers appropriate resource information and materials as designated by teacher(s); provide teacher(s) and school administrators with relevant feedback and information on students' progress through observation and daily contact including daily performance time studies and data collection; escort students to and from transportation pick-up/delivery place on campus; may assist teachers on field trips by helping students meet physical needs, supervision and reinforcing learning situations; monitor loading/unloading of students on/off buses; performs related duties as required.
A PRE-PLACEMENT MEDICAL ASSESSMENT AND A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: Completion of the twelfth grade is required, preferably supplemented by college level courses. This position may require the skill to speak, read, and write a specified foreign language, the ability to meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform the required duties, and with special training, the ability to perform toileting procedures.
CERTIFICATION OF PROFICIENCY IN THE AREAS OF BASIC READING, WRITING AND MATHEMATICAL SKILLS MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH THE APPLICATION IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED. ONE OF THE FOLLOWING MAY BE SUBMITTED IN PLACE OF THE DISTRICT PROFICIENCY CERTIFICATE.
In Lieu of Certification of District Proficiency in the Areas of Basic Reading, Writing and Mathematical Skill.

STARTING SALARY: $2,701.01 (monthly)
