Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Community Engagement Supervisor, the Community Engagement Navigator I will provide support and guidance with the Redetermination of Eligibility (RE) application process to keep KFHC's membership enrolled into health coverage. Upon the request of KFHC members, the Member Navigator will help complete the RE application, document any reported contact changes, help prepare and submit the documentation required for eligibility maintenance, and other assigned Eligibility-related duties.
This classification will have daily and extensive contact with KFHC members at an assigned site and over the phone to assist members to help resolve RE application issues, explain the Medi-Ca renewal process, respond to requests for service and solve problems to retain their health coverage. This includes maintaining a close relationship with the Kern County Department of Human Services.
Essential Functions
Typing skills of 30 NWPM; Required.
Bilingual (Spanish) certification Tier I preferred.

Essential Functions
- Strive to live and practice KHS’ Mission, Vision and Values (MVV) every day, and strongly commit to advance the organization’s strategic plan.
- Develop a thorough understanding of the Medi-Cal eligibility process and resources offered by state, county, and KHS, including BenefitsCal.com and reporting tools.
- Provide the best customer service and member advocacy that reflects KHS’ MVV members.
- Serves as a liaison with Kern Family Health Care and the public concerning enrollment, understanding, and visibility of the health care services program.
- Possess excellent communication skills to relate with diverse populations and community organizations.
- Assist members to accurately complete their Medi-Cal Redetermination of Eligibility application and successfully enroll/re-enroll into government sponsored health insurance program.
- Schedule and meet one-on-one with members to assist them in enrolling and retainment of their Medi-Cal Coverage.
- Ensure proper follow-up in a timely manner to ensure enrollment process is complete.
- Demonstrate the ability to manage databases and spreadsheets to documents notes, demographic updates, and encounters.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with government and community partners.
- Identifies, investigates, resolves, and reports member issues to management.
- Skilled in the use of related software applications (MS Word, Excel, PPT, etc.).
- Support KHS Community outreach strategies.
- Responsible for assisting with training new Community Enrollment Navigators as they are hired.
- Effective time management, and weekly activity tracking reporting including month-end summaries of projects and enrollment results analysis, to determine the impact of application assistance.
- Always maintain confidentiality and security.
- Provide input to supervisor regarding site related issues and suggestions for improvement.
- Occasionally must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends or evenings.
- Adheres to all company policies and procedures relative to employment and job responsibilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma from an accredited school or equivalent.
- Two (2) or more years of recent experience in a customer service organization or related field with a high degree of problem solving and decision making.
