Position Overview
The Project Controller is responsible for supporting the successful financial and operational performance of projects through budgeting, cost control, forecasting, schedule tracking, reporting, and risk analysis. This role works closely with project managers, finance teams, and operational leaders to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with organizational goals. The Project Controller provides critical insight into project financial health, identifies variances and risks, and helps develop corrective actions to improve overall project outcomes.

Position Overview

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and monitor project budgets in collaboration with project managers and other stakeholders.
- Track actual project costs against approved budgets and analyze cost variances.
- Identify cost overruns, financial issues, and performance trends, and recommend corrective actions.
- Prepare and update project cost forecasts throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor project schedules, milestones, and deliverables to ensure alignment with project plans.
- Compare planned progress to actual performance and identify delays or schedule deviations.
- Support project teams in developing recovery plans and schedule adjustments when necessary.
- Prepare weekly, monthly, and ad hoc project reports covering cost, schedule, progress, and financial performance.
- Provide clear and accurate analysis of project financial health to leadership and stakeholders.
- Present project metrics, forecasts, and performance updates in a professional and understandable manner.
- Identify financial and operational risks that may affect project success.
- Assess the likelihood and impact of project risks and support the development of mitigation plans.
- Maintain project controls documentation, records, and reporting tools to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
- Collaborate with project management, accounting, operations, procurement, and leadership teams to support project execution and decision-making.

- Strong knowledge of budgeting, cost control, forecasting, and financial reporting principles.
- Ability to analyze project data, identify trends, and provide practical recommendations.
- Understanding of project schedules, milestones, and progress tracking methods.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to identify risks and evaluate their potential financial and operational impact.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other reporting, budgeting, or project management software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information to leadership and stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively across departments.
- High level of accuracy, professionalism, and sound judgment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Project Management, Construction Management, or a related field required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in project controls, project finance, cost control, accounting, or a related role preferred.
- Experience supporting project budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and schedule monitoring required.
- Experience working in industries such as construction, engineering, manufacturing, energy, or other project-based environments preferred.
- Familiarity with project management systems, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and financial reporting tools preferred.
- Relevant certifications such as PMP, CCP, CMA, or similar are a plus.
- Work is primarily performed in an office environment, with occasional visits to project sites as needed.
- May require extended periods of sitting and working at a computer.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to use standard office equipment, including a computer, phone, and printer.
- Ability to communicate clearly in person, by phone, and in writing.
- May require occasional standing, walking, bending, or lifting up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to travel occasionally to project sites or company locations, if required.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.
- Must be able to pass a background screening in accordance with company policies.
