Payroll Associate/HR Assistant
Kentucky Wesleyan College, a private, liberal arts college with a long-standing reputation for quality and academic excellence, invites applications for a full-time, non-exempt Payroll Associate to join our community and provide administrative support to the Payroll Functions at the college.
Major Responsibilities
- Maintaining payroll information by collating, calculating, and reconciling data.
- Responding to inquiries from internal and external sources concerning College policies and procedures about federal and state laws and regulations.
- Calculating payroll liabilities by determining employee taxes, including federal and state income and social security tax and calculating employer’s payments for social security, unemployment, and workers' compensation.
- Resolving payroll discrepancies and answering any employee payroll queries.
- Maintaining and updating information in the College’s human resources and payroll software system and personnel files for exemption changes, insurance coverages, job title and department/division transfers.
- Processing College payrolls for employees and students.
- Assisting with the preparation of reports and forms for governmental agencies and other external organizations.
- Preparing payroll and HR documentation for audit and internal reviews.
- Processing employee benefits, including insurance, retirement plans, PTO, etc.
- Working on special projects assigned.
- Serving as a backup for Human Resources as needed.
- Assisting with other responsibilities as directed by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- An associate’s degree in human resources or a related field.
- At least two years of previous experience in human resources and/or payroll.
- Knowledge of payroll laws, regulations, and practices.
- Working knowledge of and comfort with computers and MS Office, including an extensive knowledge of spreadsheets. Previous experience with ADP Workforce is advantageous.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and in a confidential manner.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Well organized, detail oriented, and able to work amid distractions.
- Valid driver’s license and insurability under college insurance.
Compensation and Benefits
This full-time position offers a comprehensive benefits package, including the following:

This is an exempt position and will be paid on a biweekly/monthly basis.
As Kentucky Wesleyan is a not-for-profit institution, employees may be eligible for loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program of the US Department of Education.
