What are the responsibilities and job description for the PT Kennel Attendant position at KENTUCKY HUMANE SOCIETY?
Summary of Purpose:
Ensures the overall health and wellbeing of animals entrusted to the care of the Kentucky Humane Society Pet Resort while providing excellent customer service.
Duties (Essential Functions):
Provide daily care, cleanliness, and enrichment to animals in care and maintain common areas.
- Responsible for daily cleaning and disinfection of runs, walkways and rooms, public areas and offices.
- Complete AM/PM feeding of all pets per client instructions.
- Complete daily cleaning of cat condos and litter boxes.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and uncluttered resort environment, take out trash, wash windows, do laundry, dishes, etc.
- Provide basic bathing, drying and brushing of animals as assigned.
- Follow and maintain excellent knowledge of organization, cleaning, sanitation, and safety practices to provide a healthy and safe environment for animals and people.
- Patrol grounds daily, picking up any trash and fecal material.
- Complete morning/afternoon activities for all animals on activity list.
- Assist in evaluation of dogs for socialized play.
- Assist with play groups and doggie daycare.
Provide professional, compassionate, stellar customer service to all who visit, call, volunteer, donate or work for KHS.
- Always provide excellent customer service.
- Answer the phone in a timely and friendly manner as assigned.
- Conduct check-in/check-out of clients, using Kennel Booker as assigned.
- Ensure a safe work environment, following all safety guidelines.
- Communicate any animal health or temperament concerns to supervisor on duty.
- Communicate with manager or supervisor on duty regarding unusual activities, significant problems or concerns.
Assist with ASPCA Transport Program.
- Assist with unloading/loading of animals.
- Responsible for cleaning and disinfection of runs and walkways with emphasis on disease control protocols set by the ASPCA.
- Complete AM/PM feeding of all pets per ASPCA instructions.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:Qualifications/Requirements:
- General dog and cat knowledge preferred.
- Ability to work independently with little direct supervision.
- Great interpersonal skills in person and by phone with clients, staff, and volunteers.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, and ability to process paperwork accurately and efficiently.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Humane attitude towards animals.
- Accept, support, and represent KHS core values, programs, policies, and procedures.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Ability to lift or otherwise move large animals – up to 50 pounds; full range of motion, including stooping, bending, reaching, etc.
- Background Check required.

- Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, walking, and standing regularly while performing job functions.
- Frequently lifts, carries, or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to and exceeding 50 lbs.

- Potential for exposure to allergens (including but not limited to pet dander, dust, peanut butter), and zoonotic diseases (diseases transferred from animals to humans).
