Class Title: Assistant Principal – Elementary Department: School Classification: Administrator – 203 days (two (2) weeks before school opens and two (2) weeks after school ends) Immediate Supervisor:Principal CLASS DESCRIPTION The role of the Assistant Principal is to assist the Principal with the following duties: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.Collaborate with the Curriculum Office to ensure implementation of changes to new curricula, instruction, and assessment. 2.Assist the principal in facilitating professional development. 3.Supervise, coordinate, and ensure compliance with RTI regulations. 4.Schedule State Testing. 5.Assist the principal with teacher and staff evaluations. 6.Manage discipline referrals for the student body. 7.Oversee the detention supervisor. 8.Supervise school-sponsored activities. 9.Assist with class advisor responsibilities. 10.Assist with the supervision of students in the school cafeteria, corridors, and on school grounds. 11.Assist the principal with the development of plans for the opening and closing of school. 12.Assist the principal with scheduling the building. 13.Perform other responsibilities and duties as needed and required by the principal. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES •Working knowledge of district and school rules, regulations, and policies applicable to the area of assignment. •Knowledge of current research, trends, and issues in education. •Ability to work effectively with district personnel, administrators, staff, parents, outside agencies, other school districts, and the community. •Proven ability and experience in management and team-building. •Strong record of helping students achieve and sustain academic success. •Skill in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, and the coordination of people and resources. •Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effectiveness. •Ability to use data in the decision-making process, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. •Ability to continuously elevate professional contributions through ongoing reflection, building on previous learning, and remaining open and receptive to feedback. •Ability to learn and proficiently use various school-related systems and databases. •Ability to multitask and prioritize work to meet time-sensitive deadlines. •Ability to handle difficult in-person situations and telephone inquiries with courtesy, tact, and professionalism. •Strong record of success in leading and supervising adult staff. •Familiarity with differentiated instruction and lesson design. •Expertise in State Testing requirements. •Knowledge of special education regulations. •Strong active listening and decision-making skills. •Highly motivated and enthusiastic, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. •Ability to communicate and convey information and ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary. •Proficiency with computers and various software programs (e.g., Microsoft Word); experience with database management preferred. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience (Required): •Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution. •Valid Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) Building Level Administrator Certificate, Pre-Kindergarten–Grade 12. •At least five (5) years of Pre-Kindergarten–Grade 12 professional education experience. •Labor relations and supervisory experience required. •Experience with and training in Response to Intervention (RTI), through RIDE, NRIC, or another credible organization. Preferred Qualifications: •At least three (3) years of experience as a Principal or Assistant Principal.
