FUNCTION:

 

To promote the educational development, academic success and well being of each student through the application of leadership, supervisory, and management skills.

 

REPORTS TO:       Principal

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Master’s degree with emphasis in curriculum, leadership and administration.
  2. RI certification as an elementary/middle school as a school administrator or Building Administrator K-12.
  3. At least five (5) years of successful teaching in public schools.
  4. Demonstrated successful experience in public school administration.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of elementary school philosophy and practice.
  6. Documented training and skill in evaluation and assessment of teacher performance and knowledge of clinical supervision.
  7. Demonstrated skill in human relations, communications, leadership, budgeting, and organizational theory.
  8. Demonstrated experience with or knowledge of site-based management.
  9. Demonstrated skill in promoting sensitivity awareness and cultural diversity.
  10. Demonstrated knowledge of the Rhode Island Building Administrator Evaluation & Support standards.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

SHARED VISION

  1. Supports the Principal with the school’s responses to Federal, State, School Committee, and Central Office policies and regulations.
  2. Uses research/or best practice in improving educational programming for all students.
  3. Promotes high expectations for all students and staff.
  4. Is highly visible.
  5. Assists principal with the planning, facilitates, implements and communicates the school improvement plan based on the district strategic plan.

  1. Promotes the establishment of a productive environment for all district staff and students in order to promote self-actualization, achievement, teamwork, affiliation, and a humanistic, encouraging interactive climate for learning.

 

Assistant Elementary School Principal

 

  1. Supervises procedures for referrals, assessments, identification of students with disabilities, TQP meetings, and IEP meetings. Act as a resource to the RTI team
  2. Assists the principal in directing the activities of the school’s professional staff in the performance of their duties to ensure a high quality elementary school program.
  3. Provides input with the development and organization of curriculum.
  4. In conjunction with the principal coordinates monitors and evaluates instructional programs, curriculum work, and assessment.
  5. Celebrates the accomplishments of all members of the learning community.

 

Professional Development

  1. Remains current regarding changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field to ensure quality leadership.
  2. Assists with the development and implementation of appropriate Professional Development activities for all staff.

 

MANAGEMENT

  1. At the direction of the principal will work with the appropriate committees to recruit, screen, recommend for hire, orient, train, and assign the school’s certified and non-certified staff.
  2. Appraises, evaluates, and counsels the school’s certified and non-certified staff to translate the school’s educational philosophy, goals, and objectives into action terms that directly benefit the student.
  3. Participates in the scheduling and evaluation of itinerant personnel assigned to the school to support the total program.
  4. Assists the principal in the planning and supervision of safety emergency procedures for the school to ensure the well-being of students and faculty.
  5. Assists with the preparation of the school’s budgetary requests and monitors expenditures of funds in order to maintain control, and account for local funds and student activity funds and to promote the educational goals of the school.
  6. Prepares such reports as may be required to keep the Principal informed of all school activities and problems.
  7. Participates in the supervision and improvement of the physical plant in order to provide an environment conducive to learning, including, but not limited to custodial maintenance, building use, security, and food service operations.

 

 

 

 

 

Assistant Elementary School Principal

 

  1. In collaboration with the Principal supervises the preparation and coordination of the master student schedule for students and teachers.
  2. Assists the building administrator with the coordination and scheduling for the smooth daily operation of the school.
  3. Develops and coordinates a system to maintain appropriate student conduct throughout the building to provide an orderly environment conducive to learning as well as handles and upholds the district’s disciplinary policy and procedures.

 

FAMILY AND COMMUNITY

  1. Promotes effective communication between the school and community to create positive support, understanding, and participation for continued school improvement.
  2. Serves as a member of district committees to facilitate communication and collegial relationships.
  3. In the absence of the Principal prepares and coordinates all public relation responses.

 

ETHICS

  1. Protects the rights and appropriate confidentiality of students and staff.
  2. Demonstrates ethical and professional behavior.

 

SOCIETAL CONTEXT

  1. Promotes opportunities for self-actualization by creating a climate in which staff is encouraged to gain enjoyment from their work, develop their potential, and take on new and interesting activities.
  2. Performs additional special assignments at the direction of the Principal, consistent with III.D Duties of Administrators and III.E Additional Responsibilities of Administrators provisions of this Administrator’s contract.

 

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the School Committee’s policy on based upon the Rhode Island Building Administrator Evaluation & Support standards, and the Guidelines for Implementation.

 

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

Twelve-month work year.  Salary and benefits per contract.
