Aerospace Applications Engineer – Metal Additive Manufacturing

Cincinnati, Ohio

On-site with approximately 25% travel

Kensington360 is supporting an international metal additive manufacturing technology business in the appointment of an Aerospace Applications Engineer based in Cincinnati.

This is a customer-facing technical role focused on helping aerospace manufacturers identify, evaluate and industrialise suitable applications for metal additive manufacturing.

You will work across structural components, engine parts, brackets and other flight-critical and non-flight-critical systems. The position combines aerospace engineering, product development, Design for Additive Manufacturing and technical customer engagement.

The Opportunity

Working alongside commercial, engineering and manufacturing teams, you will engage directly with aerospace customers to understand their technical challenges and determine where additive manufacturing can deliver meaningful value.

This will include identifying suitable components, developing technical and commercial business cases, optimising designs and helping customers understand the qualification and certification pathways required to move an application towards production.

The ideal candidate will bring product development or manufacturing engineering experience from aerospace or another highly regulated environment. Existing metal additive manufacturing experience is strongly preferred, although relevant aerospace expertise combined with a genuine interest in additive manufacturing will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to customer enquiries and gather technical requirements for proposals
  • Consult with aerospace customers on engineering challenges and application requirements
  • Identify components and manufacturing processes suitable for additive manufacturing
  • Assess customer environments, inefficiencies and opportunities for AM adoption
  • Travel to customer sites to evaluate potential applications
  • Develop conceptual designs, build layouts and CAD models
  • Apply Design for Additive Manufacturing principles to aerospace components
  • Support business-case development, design optimisation and application validation
  • Collaborate with internal teams to deliver prototypes, samples and quotations
  • Provide technical input relating to aerospace standards, regulatory requirements and material traceability
  • Use specialist software to deliver product demonstrations and application validation
  • Train sales teams on aerospace applications, customer requirements and relevant use cases
  • Represent the organisation at aerospace conferences, trade shows and technical forums
  • Develop an application playbook covering use cases, lessons learned, qualification pathways and customer successes

What We’re Looking For

You should hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or another relevant technical discipline and have approximately three to five years of experience within aerospace, advanced manufacturing or another high-specification engineering environment.

Relevant backgrounds could include aerospace product development, manufacturing engineering, applications engineering, process engineering or additive manufacturing.

You should have experience interpreting complex customer or product requirements and translating them into practical engineering solutions. Familiarity with aerospace qualification or certification frameworks—such as AS9100, FAA or EASA requirements, material traceability or equivalent controls—is highly desirable.

CAD proficiency is required, ideally using Siemens NX or a comparable platform. Experience with metal additive manufacturing, particularly laser powder bed fusion or directed energy deposition, would be a significant advantage.

Candidates must also be comfortable working directly with customers, presenting technical information and travelling approximately 25% of the time.

Why Apply?

  • Join a specialist organisation operating at the forefront of industrial metal additive manufacturing
  • Work directly with major aerospace applications and engineering challenges
  • Support projects from component identification through design, validation and industrialisation
  • Gain exposure to powder bed fusion and directed energy deposition technologies
  • Combine engineering with customer engagement and industry development
  • Build specialist knowledge of aerospace AM qualification and certification
  • Represent advanced technology at customer sites and industry events
  • Play a visible role in the adoption of additive manufacturing across aerospace

Kensington360 is committed to promoting equal opportunities. Applications are welcomed from suitably qualified candidates regardless of background or personal circumstances.
