The Rockwall Instructor supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The role of the Rockwall Instructor is to provide a safe climbing environment in which members and guests feel comfortable and are motivated to continue their involvement in the sport of climbing. The Rockwall Instructor understands the Kenosha YMCA has zero tolerance for abuse of youth in its programs by employees or volunteers and will follow child abuse prevention policies, comply with mandated reporting requirements, and cooperate with law enforcement.
Job responsibilities:
- Provide safe, engaging, and effective climbing instruction for members, participants, and guests.
- Supervise the climbing wall area and ensure participant safety at all times.
- Teach proper climbing techniques, safety procedures, equipment use, and climbing etiquette.
- Lead climbing classes, private lessons, parties, rentals, and special events.
- Assist members and participants with questions related to climbing, programs, and equipment.
- Maintain accurate attendance records, waivers, and required program documentation.
- Report accidents, incidents, and safety concerns following YMCA procedures.
- Assist with route changes, equipment care, and program setup as needed.
- Maintain assigned shifts, complete required timekeeping, and attend staff meetings/trainings.
- Follow all YMCA safety, abuse prevention, and customer service standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- 16 years or older
- 1-3 years' experience
- Ability to resolve issues in a professional manner
- Ability to control groups of 5 or more
- Experience with children is preferred
- Background check cannot contain offenses restricted by state law for individuals over 18 years old
