Job Overview
Kenney Business Solutions is seeking a Museum Support Specialist to provide museum support services to assist in the day-to-day on-site operations of the National Hansen's Disease Museum.
The National Hansen's Disease Programs (NHDP) is a specialized Federal Government medical clinic and research facility that is tasked with the treatment, research, and education of Hansen's disease (HD). Since 1994, NHDP has operated a small history museum (6,000 square feet) located in Carville, Louisiana. The museum educates the general public, medical professionals, researchers, writers, and the media on the history of the leprosarium in Carville, which began in 1894 and served as the center for the diagnosis and treatment of HD
Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain Federal records and/or information, including electronic records and/or information, ensuring compliance with all applicable records management laws and regulations.
- Maintain records throughout the full lifecycle, including:(1) maintenance of links between records and metadata, and(2) categorization of records to manage retention and disposal.
- Complete the HHS Records Management Training before the start of work and annual refreshers.
- Provide museum support services, including visitor services and tour operations; administrative support; collections/exhibit support (basic preservation, monitoring, inventory, and research); facility upkeep; public information/PR support; and museum bookstore sales and funds accountability/remittance in accordance with museum procedures.
- Provide reception support, including greeting and directing visitors, maintaining security and phone system, ensuring proper badging for visitors, and supporting continuity among work teams by tracking and coordinating actions.
- Prepare and maintain documentation and inputs for the monthly activity report and quarterly inventory report.
- Coordinate base entry with the National Guard for scheduled group tours.
- Support incident response and adhere to the HHS Policy for IT Security and Privacy Incident Reporting and Response.
Experience
- At least 1 year experience in museums, archives, or libraries required.
- Demonstrate organizational skills in the management of large quantities of written materials (hard copy and digital), including examples of projects.
- Proficient in Excel, MS Word, and Explorer. (e.g., PastPerfect), including experience maintaining databases, organizing and inventorying materials, and effective written and verbal communication.
Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 22 years of age.
- Must have a Bachelor's degree in humanities, anthropology, or archeology, or a Master's in Library Science.
(comparable degrees are acceptable).
- Must pass a criminal background check.
- Must be able to pass/provide acceptable results of a current physical examination and the ability to lift, push, and pull 30 pounds, type/input data for 3 to 4 consecutive hours, and climb an 8-foot ladder to hang displays.
