JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Interventionist – Mathematics (Secondary)
REPORTS TO: Curriculum Supervisor
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Kennett Consolidated School District is seeking a dedicated and skilled Interventionist who will deliver high-quality, evidence-based reading and mathematics interventions to students while collaborating with classroom teachers, support staff, and the MTSS Coordinator to accelerate student achievement within our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework.
This role is pivotal in providing targeted, intensive support to students who need additional help to succeed academically. The ideal candidate will exhibit a strong belief in the importance of relationships and student resilience, utilizing a student-centered, data-driven approach to maximize learning outcomes and support the district's mission and vision.
Applicants who are fluent or bilingual, particularly those with at least three (3) college-level Spanish courses or a command of conversational Spanish, are highly sought due to our uniquely diverse student population. Bilingual proficiency is especially valuable for supporting multilingual learners in reading intervention and family communication.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate
- One of the Following:
- Reading Specialist Certificate, OR
- PA Mathematics Coach Endorsement
- Evidence of Advanced Training (Choose based on role)
- Reading: LETRS, IMSE Certification, Keys to Literacy – Keys to Beginning Reading, or other IDA-recognized programs (Waived if graduate/certification program is IDA accredited)
- Mathematics: OGAP (Fractions, Multiplicative Reasoning, Proportional Reasoning); graduate coursework in algebra, geometry, statistics, or secondary math education; or NCTM/NCSM leadership institutes with documented follow-up projects
- Experience using assessment data to plan, deliver, and monitor tiered interventions within an MTSS/RTI framework
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction & Intervention
- Deliver tiered, small-group and individual reading and mathematics interventions using evidence-based instructional strategies aligned with the Science of Reading and current mathematics best practices
- Differentiate instruction and materials based on ongoing progress monitoring data and individual student needs, including English Learners and students with disabilities
Assessment & Data
- Administer screeners, diagnostics, and progress monitoring assessments; maintain accurate records and intervention documentation
- Participate in building, grade, and individual student-level data team meetings to review data and respond to student needs
- Work collaboratively with the MTSS Coordinator and data team to analyze assessment results and adjust intervention plans based on progress
Collaboration & Professional Support
- Work with classroom teachers to identify intervention needs, align intervention goals with core instruction, and support skill transfer to the classroom
- Provide instructional coaching and modeling of evidence-based strategies to colleagues as needed
- Support schoolwide literacy and mathematics initiatives
MTSS Alignment
- Attend district MTSS meetings and collaborative sessions with elementary/secondary counterparts to ensure vertical alignment of screening schedules, intervention protocols, Tier movement criteria, and data sharing
- Support the MTSS Coordinator in implementing tiered interventions and MTSS framework fidelity
Related Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal, curriculum supervisor, or MTSS Coordinator
ADA SPECIFICATIONS:
While performing in this position the employee is regularly required to use hands to
finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and to talk and hear; sit and occasionally
be required to sit, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crawl and crouch. Specific vision abilities
required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move 20-30 pounds. The employee
will be subject to inside office environmental conditions with low to moderate noise
levels. The employee will possess effective communication, judgmental, planning and
human relations skills, and will be required to work under periods of stress due to the
level of the position responsibility.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- 190 Day Position.
- Salary and Benefits according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Kennett Consolidated School District Board of School Directors and the Kennett Education Foundation.
EVALUATION:
Performance of the job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Personnel.
