Transportation Operations Manager

Kennesaw Transportation is seeking an experienced, motivated, and hands-on Transportation Operations Manager to lead daily dispatch and fleet operations. This position is responsible for keeping freight moving efficiently, supporting drivers, serving customers with urgency, and ensuring the operations team runs with strong communication, accountability, and follow-through.

The ideal candidate is a strong leader who understands trucking, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and knows how to balance customer service, driver support, safety, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily transportation operations, dispatch, load planning, and driver communication.
• Ensure freight is picked up and delivered on time while maintaining excellent customer service.
• Manage and support dispatchers, driver managers, and operational staff.
• Monitor driver availability, equipment utilization, route efficiency, and service performance.
• Communicate clearly with customers regarding scheduling, delays, issues, and solutions.
• Work closely with safety, recruiting, maintenance, billing, and leadership teams.
• Resolve operational problems quickly and professionally.
• Track KPIs such as on-time delivery, driver productivity, empty miles, revenue per truck, service failures, and equipment utilization.
• Coach and hold team members accountable for performance, communication, and urgency.
• Help improve processes, reduce inefficiencies, and increase profitability.
• Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, company policies, safety standards, and customer requirements.
• Support driver retention through professional communication, problem-solving, and respect.
• Participate in after-hours support as needed.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in trucking, logistics, dispatch, transportation, or fleet operations required.
• Management or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of truckload operations, driver scheduling, freight planning, and customer service.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make quick, sound decisions.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and transportation management systems.
• Knowledge of DOT regulations and hours-of-service rules preferred.
• Must be organized, dependable, professional, and team-oriented.
• Must have a sense of urgency and a “get it done” attitude.
