POSITION SUMMARY: The Commercial Portfolio Manager is responsible for administering and managing the bank’s portfolio of commercial loans, serving as a key partner to commercial lenders by providing portfolio management, quality control, and credit administration support. The role also acts as the primary liaison for agency-related credits and contributes to the support of commercial workouts and problem loan management.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Management & Credit Quality: Oversee the commercial loan portfolio to ensure full compliance with policy and documentation standards while supporting lenders by gathering required financial information and maintaining accurate credit files. The role includes conducting pre-closing quality control reviews, monitoring covenant compliance and other post-closing requirements, and maintaining internal ticklers to ensure timely follow-through. Additionally, the position manages the risk-rating change process by preparing and executing rating memos, confirming system updates, and identifying emerging credit risks to recommend proactive mitigation strategies.

Annual Reviews & Ongoing Monitoring: Coordinate and manage the annual review process for commercial relationships by working with lenders and the credit department to create and monitor the review workflow. The role partners with lenders to ensure timely completion of annual and interim reviews in accordance with bank policy and regulatory expectations, while also reviewing risk assessments and renewal recommendations.

Agency & Program Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for FAME and other state, federal, or quasi-governmental lending programs, ensuring full compliance with agency program requirements, reporting standards, and documentation guidelines. The role coordinates submissions, renewals, modifications, and ongoing servicing of agency-related credits, while maintaining strong working relationships with agency representatives and internal stakeholders.

Commercial Workouts & Special Assets Support: Assist in identifying, monitoring, and managing criticized and classified commercial credits while supporting workout strategies such as restructures, modifications, forbearance agreements, and exit plans. The role participates in problem loan discussions, action planning, and reporting, and collaborates with lenders, credit administration, and legal counsel as needed, including participating in credit risk meetings.

Lender Liaison & Internal Collaboration: Serve as a trusted liaison among commercial lenders, credit administration, loan operations, and senior management, providing guidance on portfolio management, credit policy, and regulatory expectations. The role promotes consistency, best practices, and a strong credit culture across the lending team, accompanies lenders on customer calls as appropriate, and supports training and mentoring related to portfolio management.

Reporting & Compliance: Prepare and contribute to portfolio-level reporting, including risk trends, concentrations, and asset quality metrics, while also serving as the point person for internal commercial loan audits, loan reviews, and regulatory examinations. The role ensures full adherence to bank policies, procedures, and all applicable banking regulations.

Support Bank products/services: Maintain knowledge of current KSB products and services. Actively utilize as many Bank products and services as possible in order to fully understand their features and benefits and to be able to communicate effectively with customers and prospective customers.

When talking to customers and prospects, listen for “cues and clues” to determine needs; respond to customer inquiries and evaluate their needs; suggest Bank products/services to customers to meet their needs or make referrals to other Bank personnel as appropriate.

Community/public relations: Actively participate in civic and community organizations and events to promote the growth and development of the communities we serve. Represent the Bank with a positive image.

Other duties: Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality. Handle telephone inquiries and provide information to customers, vendors and other departments in a professional and courteous manner. Attend and participate in Bank meetings. Attend internal and external training to improve skills and knowledge relevant to the position.

Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3-5 years’ in commercial credit analysis, portfolio management, or commercial lending.
  • Working knowledge of community bank lending practices and regulatory expectations.
  • Experience with agency lending programs (e.g., FAME, SBA, USDA, or similar) preferred.
  • Computer literate, with experience in bank platform software (such as Fiserv or equivalent Bank software); proficient in Microsoft Office; and experience with loan software such as Sageworks is desirable.

Other Requirements

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, the use of a serviceable automobile that is properly registered and proper liability automobile insurance as required by state law.
  • Must be able to lift files or other documents of approximately 20 pounds.
  • Must have strong written communications skills, including letter and report-writing ability.
  • Must have public speaking ability.
  • Must be able to read and work with computer print-out reports.
  • Must be able to spend extended periods of time operating a computer keyboard and working at a computer monitor.
  • Must be able to use the telephone to converse with customers for extended periods of time; must be able to communicate clearly by telephone; must have good listening ability and skills.
  • Must be able to prioritize and organize workflow; must have good attention to detail; must be able to handle multiple jobs tasks.
  • Must have the ability to think through a problem, following proper steps in finding resolution.
  • Must have a high degree of ethics and maintain confidentiality of customers and accounts.
  • Must be friendly, courteous and sensitive to the needs of customers and coworkers.
