What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Worker - General Laborer Homer Transfer Facility position at KENAI PENINSULA BOROUGH?
Under the general direction and supervision of the Director of Solid Waste, Landfill Manager, or designee, this position is responsible for maintaining facilities and grounds by performing general labor.
- The applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
- The applicant must have a current and valid driver’s license.
- Use of personal vehicle to travel to work locations may be required.
- The employee must be able to work a flexible work schedule, if required.
- Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision.
- Applicant must possess basic knowledge of methods, techniques, materials, and equipment used in general maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds.
- Ability to safely operate and maintain small and mid-sized tools and equipment.
- Ability to follow oral and written directions and schedules.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
- Performs grounds maintenance (picking up trash) in and around the grounds and facilities at the Central Peninsula Baling Facility.
- Operate small equipment including but not limited to, small hydro-seed unit, weed trimmers, and small water pumps.
- Ability to work with others and deal courteously and effectively with the public.
- Perform tasks with minimal or no supervision.
- May be required to operate mid-sized equipment such as skidsteers, compactors, various powered equipment and drive Borough vehicles to job sites.
- Clean, maintain, and organize tools and equipment at days’ end.
- Inform superiors of problems such as broken equipment, vandalism and potential safety hazards. Communicate with supervisor when certain tasks cannot be completed, particularly before accepting new work assignments.
- Safely handle chemicals, vehicles, tools and work equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and best practices using personal protective equipment as required.
- Perform tasks with minimal or no supervision.
- Attend department training programs as required.
- Have regular, reliable and predictable attendance at work.
