What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Recreation Instructor- North Peninsula Recreation Service Area position at KENAI PENINSULA BOROUGH?
Under the general direction and supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the instructor is responsible for teaching and supervising various types of classes, including fitness classes, arts and crafts classes and various other recreational lifestyle classes in and around the community center areas and ensuring safety regulations are met. Instructs classes in a safe, enjoyable and positive environment that promotes wellness and engagement in accordance with service area policy and procedures.
High school diploma or GED; at least eighteen years old; At least one year of experience teaching fitness and various types of classes; must demonstrate ability to create a lesson plan and implement a program/curriculum.
Preferred Certifications for Fitness Classes: Nationally recognized fitness certifications including American Council on Exercise Fitness (ACE), Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), and CPR/First Aid Certification.
- Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the Recreation Supervisor to accomplish goals.
- Creates and implements fitness and various programs.
- Choreographs sessions. Selects appropriate music for classes. Plans programs that suit the needs of the Service Area.
- Instructor must be able to effectively explain and demonstrate proper technique for exercises and skills, and various teaching methods.
- Keeps accurate records, lesson plans and prepares reports.
- Follows NPRSA policies and procedures.
Other Functions:
- Responds and assists NPRSA staff in emergency situations.
- Other related duties as assigned.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to see, talk and hear; swim; stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel or crouch; and occasionally required to use hands and fingers dexterously to operate equipment and controls. The employee must occasionally transport up to 50 pounds and very occasionally more than 100 pounds.
