What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at KENAI PENINSULA BOROUGH?
Definition: Under the general direction and supervision of the general services director and/or their designee, the Custodian is responsible for the general maintenance and cleaning of all assigned buildings.
One year of industrial/commercial cleaning experience; a demonstrated ability to read and follow instructions; a general knowledge of a variety of cleaning, equipment and supplies. Must have experience working in confidential environments. Must be 18 years of age.
This position will work part time swing shift (approximate hours between 5pm-9pm)
- Performs daily or scheduled duties such as sweeping, mopping and vacuuming of floors and carpet, and window cleaning. Cleans assigned rooms, halls, offices, and restrooms. Dusts and cleans walls, furniture, fixtures and removes trash. Keeps borough building grounds tidy.
- Replacement and re-supply of paper materials in restrooms and storage rooms.
- Performs basic maintenance duties such as replacing lights and other periodic maintenance projects such as stripping and waxing floors, shampooing carpets and snow removal.
- Maintains safe grounds by observing and correcting possible safety hazards such as wet floors or icy sidewalks. Helps ensure building security by being alert to unusual circumstances and by locking doors and windows as appropriate. Informs manager and lead of concerns as observed.
- Sets up tables and chairs for assembly, school district or other meetings as required.
- May open or close borough buildings, raise or lower flags, and check building systems at the beginning or end of the workday.
- May work alone or with team members.

The employee is regularly required to stand and walk; frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle items and operate equipment, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, and crouch; and occasionally required to climb or balance and communicate orally. The employee must frequently transport up to 50 pounds and occasionally transport up to 100 pounds.
