What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Director position at KENAI PENINSULA BOROUGH?
Under the general direction and supervision of the Borough mayor or their designee the Recreation Director leads the day-to-day operations of NPRSA, making sure programs, facilities, and services run smoothly and meet the needs of the community. Working closely with the service area board, this role helps guide decisions, supports planning efforts, and keeps everything moving forward from programming and staffing to budgeting and long-term planning.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two years managerial experience in recreation, or four years of managerial experience in the recreation field; certified pool/spa operator, CPR, and First Aid certificates; and a valid Alaska driver's license to perform all job functions.
- Plans, promotes, organizes and administers recreational services for the community under the policies established.
- Prepares budget and directs expenditures of department funds and keeping of department records.
- Serves as technical advisor to managing authority and serves as a recreation consultant to the community.
- Implements and evaluates risk management programs.
- Meets regularly with service area board.
- Prepares materials and information for regular meetings with service area boards.
- Develops plans, policies for service area board approval.
- Selects, develops and supervises staff and on-calls.
- Plans employee training and development programs for job related skills.
- Interprets recreation program to public and maintains cooperative planning and working relationships with public and volunteer agencies.
- Evaluates effectiveness in recreation areas, facilities and services.
- Develops short and long range plans to meet recreational needs for all age groups.
- Develops procedures to carry out plans and policies for facilities, staff and administration.
- Prepares grant proposals for formal application for funding.
- Prepares written, formal proposals for technical assistance on projects.
- Serves as project manager and assists capital projects for service area projects.
- Other related duties as assigned.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear; to use hands and fingers dexterously to operate equipment and machines; swim; stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must occasionally transport up to 50 pounds and very occasionally more than 100 pounds. Salary : $90,855 - $111,165
