Job Title: Seasonal Natural Resources Technician

Reports To: Natural Resources Specialist

Starting Pay Range: $21.00 – $23.00 per hour (D.O.E.), paid on a biweekly basis

Employment Classification: Seasonal Full-Time, Non-Exempt

May – October 2026; 40 hours/week (26 weeks)

SCHEDULE: 7:00 am – 5:30 pm, Sunday through Wednesday

POSITION SUMMARY:

Ken-Caryl Ranch Master Association is hiring a seasonal Natural Resources Technician to assist with our invasive species management and forestry programs. Under the supervision of the Natural Resources Specialist, the technician will monitor and maintain the natural, cultural and infrastructural resources on Ken-Caryl Ranch’s 4000 acre open space.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Control noxious and other invasive weeds utilizing integrated pest management techniques including mapping, monitoring, mowing, trimming, pulling, and implementing biological controls. Also mixing, loading, and applying herbicides using UTVs and backpack sprayers. Requirements and regulations of local, county, state, and federal weed control programs, including all requirements relevant to pesticide storage, mixing, application, and disposal need to be followed at all times.
  • Identify native and non-native plants.
  • Utilize ARCGIS software on an iPad to collect field data.
  • Perform forest management, including operating light & heavy equipment.
  • Record and maintain appropriate records and reports.
  • Operate, maintain, and perform routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles, such as trucks, UTV’s, mowers, sprayers, weed whips, chainsaws, etc.
  • Depending on project needs, assist with restoration, inventory and monitoring projects.
  • Working with Volunteer weed control programs.
  • General open space and facilities maintenance.
  • Perform trash removal throughout open space areas, trail systems, and facilities.
  • Conduct brush clearing and tree limbing to support wildfire mitigation, trail safety, and forest health initiatives.
  • Install, repair, and maintain regulatory, wayfinding, and informational signage.
  • Perform mowing, trimming, and general grounds maintenance operations.
  • Provide administrative and operational support to ranger staff, including documentation, reporting, and coordination assistance as needed.
  • Perform snow removal services on hard surface open space trails.

Requirements:

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Biology, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Sustainable Agriculture, or related field preferred, but not required.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • At least one (1) year work related and/or education experience in invasive species management, natural resource management, environmental science or related field required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills, capable of prioritizing and managing multiple tasks efficiently in a dynamic work setting.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities along with robust relationship-building skills are necessary.
  • Basic computer skills including use of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook), with a willingness to learn new software programs.
  • Build positive and supportive interactions with both the public and team members.
  • Communicate effectively with the public and colleagues, offering a friendly and helpful approach.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to handle challenging situations when needed.
  • Must be able to work in all-weather elements.
  • Must have current, valid Colorado Driver’s License and must be insurable with KCRMA’s insurance carrier.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at a level adequate to perform the job.
  • Be able to work evenings, holidays, and weekends as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires work in a variety of locations and conditions, including but not limited to outside patrol of trail system and office environment.

  • Must be able to safely navigate open space areas using UTVs, hike long distances through rough terrain with 40 pound backpack sprayers on.
  • Constant standing and walking over uneven terrain in all weather conditions to patrol trails; occasional running to address emergency situations.
  • Moderate physical activity frequently required.
  • Work will occasionally be required outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.
  • Must be comfortable working around CO native wildlife. Including but not limited to rattlesnakes, stinging insects, deer, bear, coyote, etc.
  • Work may be required under hazardous and adverse conditions, including, but not limited to, slippery and uneven surfaces and proximity to moving mechanical equipment.
  • Work in an office environment occasionally.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a printer, copier and scanner.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Have ability to stand, walk, sit, kneel, stoop, bend, lift, squat, push, pull, crawl, jump, slide, climb, pinch, grip, reach overhead, reach away from body, and perform repetitive motions.
