What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Product Manager (Business Transformation & Data Analytics) position at Kelly?
Overview
We are seeking a highly versatile, senior-level professional who blends deep data/analytics fluency with hands-on process-improvement experience and software product ownership. This role has no fixed ceiling — scope will expand based on the candidate's ability to take ownership. The ideal candidate operates comfortably without a narrowly defined job description, moving fluidly between data analysis, stakeholder facilitation, solutioning, and light technical direction depending on what the business needs at any given moment.
Key Responsibilities
- Requirements, Solutioning & Product OwnershipAct as the primary liaison between business/non-technical stakeholders and technical teams (developers, data engineers) — translating business needs into technical requirements and translating technical constraints back into business terms.
- Own the end-to-end shaping of internal tools and data products: gather requirements, define solutions, and guide development teams through build and iteration, without necessarily writing production code.
- Serve as Business Analyst, Project Manager, and/or Product Owner across multiple concurrent tools/initiatives as needed.
- Proactively engage with upstream teams/processes to ensure the data or outputs they produce are usable downstream — rather than waiting for handoffs and reworking unusable results after the fact.
- Data, Dashboarding & Insight DeliveryTranslate business and observational data needs into precise technical specifications for developers and engineers — e.g., which data sources to pull from and join, what filtering/cleaning logic to apply to cut out noise, and what the resulting visual should look like (including specific drill-down/interactivity requirements) — without necessarily building the dashboard or report personally.
- Apply root cause analysis to diagnose process or performance issues before proposing solutions.
- Design information displays with strong UI/UX judgment so stakeholders can understand key findings at a glance, without needing a walkthrough.
- Cross-Functional & Data Engineering CoordinationWork with data engineers to define how source data should be structured, extracted, and transformed (ETL) to support downstream reporting and analytics needs.
- Collaborate on refining shared/curated data layers so data remains usable by teams beyond the immediate project.
- Identify when a manual or static process should be modernized (e.g., moved to the cloud, exposed via an API) to enable automation and scalability, and drive that conversation with non-technical stakeholders.
- Leadership & Stakeholder ManagementDirect the work of technical teams (e.g., dashboard developers, engineers) on a project basis, without necessarily holding formal HR/management responsibility for those individuals.
- Operate effectively in environments where stakeholders may be reluctant, guarded, or resistant to scrutiny — building trust and cooperation is essential to the role.
- Represent data/process/tooling initiatives in meetings across all levels of the organization, including senior leadership.
- Process ImprovementAssess business processes (via both system-generated data and direct observation), as an ongoing part of day-to-day work, to identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities.
- Required Qualifications10 years of professional corporate work experience (any industry).
- Demonstrated experience translating business or observational data into actionable insights and recommendations.
- Demonstrated experience conducting root cause analysis.
- Demonstrated experience acting as a bridge between non-technical business stakeholders and technical teams (developers/engineers), including gathering requirements and shaping solutions.
- Demonstrated experience proactively shaping upstream work/processes to ensure usable downstream outcomes, rather than reacting after the fact.
- Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and shape work without formal authority over them.
- Demonstrated skill in identifying the underlying business need behind a stakeholder's stated request, rather than executing the request at face value.
- Demonstrated ability to build trust and gain cooperation from stakeholders who may be resistant, guarded, or unenthusiastic about the engagement.
- Prior experience formally managing people (including HR-level responsibilities such as performance reviews) in at least one previous role.
- Working conceptual understanding of SQL and Python — enough to identify when and how they should be applied to solve a problem, not necessarily hands-on mastery.
- Working conceptual understanding of BI/visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Spotfire) and their appropriate use cases.
- Working conceptual understanding of cloud data platforms (e.g., Databricks) and how modern data pipelines (ETL, layered data architectures) function.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) sufficient to recognize opportunities where they could accelerate a solution.
- Comfort operating with high autonomy in an undefined or evolving role, wearing multiple functional hats (analyst, BA, PM, product owner) as needed.
- Bonus QualificationsExperience serving as a one-person Business Analyst/Project Manager/Solution Owner on a software development initiative involving a dedicated engineering team.
- Exposure to software development lifecycle practices and agile ceremonies (sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, etc.).
- Experience working with Excel, Power Automate, and/or Power Apps in a business analysis context.
- Experience acting as Product Owner/Product Manager for internal tools or platforms.
- Experience building a financial/value case — quantifying the dollar impact (savings or gains) of a proposed process, tool, or efficiency change. This is exercised only occasionally (not a day-to-day task), but is a valuable skill to have when high-stakes stakeholder buy-in is needed.
