Job Title: On Site Bookkeeper / Accounting Assistant

Location: Sabine Pass, Texas

Schedule: Full Time, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Pay Rate: $30/hour Position Overview:

The On Site Bookkeeper / Accounting Assistant is responsible for providing day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting support to ensure accurate financial records and timely processing of transactions. This role includes maintaining financial documentation, processing payments, performing reconciliations, and supporting payroll and reporting activities under general supervision. The position assists senior accounting or finance personnel with tasks related to reporting and audits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bookkeeping and General Ledger Support:
    • Accurately record financial transactions in the accounting system.
    • Perform regular reconciliations for bank accounts, cash activity, receivables, and payables.
    • Maintain organized supporting documentation.
    • Assist with month-end close processes, account reviews, and schedules.
  • Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable:
    • Process vendor invoices, payment requests, and check runs.
    • Prepare customer billings related to leases, utilities, marina activity, and port services.
    • Track receivables and follow up on past-due accounts as directed.
    • Maintain vendor and customer records.
  • Payroll & Routine Reporting Support:
    • Process payroll and related deductions according to established procedures.
    • Maintain payroll records and documentation.
    • Assist with preparation of payroll and tax reports for review.
  • Recordkeeping & Administrative Accounting Support:
    • Maintain accurate accounting files, contracts, and financial records.
    • Provide documentation to internal staff, external auditors, or consultants as requested.
    • Assist with data entry and tracking related to budgets and expenditures.
    • Support basic reporting by compiling financial data.
Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required; Associate Degree, Accounting certificate, or relevant coursework preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting clerk, or similar role.
  • Experience with accounts payable/receivable, payroll processing, and bank reconciliations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks or similar).
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and reliability.
  • Ability to work independently in an onsite, small office environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting a public entity, municipality, or small organization.
  • Familiarity with maintaining documentation for audits or reviews.
  • Experience in lease or service billing is a plus (not required).
