Summary: 

The Warehouse Assistant Manager supports the Warehouse Manager in overseeing day-to-day warehouse operations, including inventory control, shipping, and receiving, staff supervision, workflow coordination, and compliance with safety standards. This role ensures that warehouse processes run efficiently, orders are fulfilled accurately and on time, and the team maintains a clean, organized, and productive environment. The Warehouse Assistant Manager acts as a leader on the floor and serves as the point-of-contact when the Warehouse Manager is unavailable.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

 

Operations Leadership

  • Assist in managing daily warehouse operations, workflow, order fulfillment, and inventory movement.
  • Support the creation and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ensure warehouse organization, cleanliness, and compliance with company standards.
  • Foster a positive and accountable work environment grounded in teamwork and safety.

 

Inventory Management

  • Monitor inventory levels to minimize shortages, overstock, and discrepancies.
  • Oversee and participate in cycle counts, stock rotations, and full physical inventories.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory inconsistencies, damaged goods, or mis-located items.
  • Ensure real-time accuracy of WMS/ERP data through proper documentation and oversight.

 

Shipping & Receiving Oversight

  • Help supervise shipping and receiving to ensure accurate and timely processing of inbound and outbound goods.
  • Verify documentation, packing lists, bills of lading, and shipment accuracy.
  • Work closely with carriers, vendors, and internal teams regarding scheduling, shipments, and special handling needs.
  • Ensure outbound packaging meets quality standards and carrier requirements.

 

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, company safety policies, and all warehouse safety protocols.
  • Conduct walk-throughs to identify hazards, enforce PPE usage, and correct unsafe behaviors.
  • Participate in safety meetings, incident investigations, and corrective action planning.

 

Equipment & Facility Management

  • Ensure all warehouse equipment is properly used, maintained, and serviced.
  • Report facility issues and coordinate with maintenance as needed.
  • Support process improvements related to equipment layout, storage, and throughput.

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
  • 3–5 years of warehouse experience, 
  • Strong knowledge of inventory control, shipping, receiving, and warehouse operations.
  • Forklift certification.
  • Experience with WMS/ERP platforms (SAP, NetSuite, Fishbowl, etc.).
  • Experience in a high-volume distribution or production environment.
  • Safety procedures and practices in a warehouse environment
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, procedures, and manuals
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and customers both verbally and in writing
  • Proficiency with email and other software programs

  • Problem-Solving Skills: The individual identifies the root cause of customer issues and develops effective solutions. They think outside the box to resolve customer problems and improve service. They make sound decisions quickly to address customer needs and issues.
  • Time Management: The individual effectively prioritizes tasks to manage multiple customer inquiries and issues. Completes tasks.
  • Adaptability—The individual adapts to changing customer needs, policies, and technologies. Remains calm and effective under pressure during high-volume periods. Quickly learn new procedures and systems as required. 

 

 

 

Language Skills:   

Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, invoices, SOP, and instructions; write routine reports and correspondence. Effectively present information in one-on-one situations and small group situations to customers or vendors, and other employees.

 

Math Skills:     

Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio, and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability:   

Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Identifies problems, gathers information, and offers solutions.

 

Computer Skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, and Excel, is preferred . Proficiency with email is required. 

 

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed indoors (warehouse) and outdoors. 
  • May be required to sit or stand for long periods 
  • Lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, up to 70 pounds occasionally 
  • Move 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally 
  • Push / Pull 50 pounds frequently and up to 175 pounds occasionally 
  • Exposure to shop and equipment elements including noise, dust, odors, fumes, oils, and chemicals.

 

The work is typically performed in an office environment with a moderate noise level.   

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods. The employee is also frequently required to talk and hear on the telephone and in person with individuals and groups. The employee must be able to reach with hands and arms. Type frequently throughout the day. Vision is required as the incumbent is required to read and respond to documents in hard copy and electronic form.

Must have reliable transportation, a Valid Driver’s License, and pass pre-employment screening.
