Job Summary
Under the direction of the Principal, the Attendance Coordinator maintains accurate student attendance records, communicates with families regarding absences, and ensures compliance with California attendance laws and school procedures. This role is essential to student safety, accountability, funding and school operations. Key Responsibilities Maintain accurate daily attendance records in the student information system Verify, code, and update absences, tardies, and early dismissals Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student absences and attendance concerns Monitor and track chronic absenteeism; support SART/SARB processes as needed Generate attendance reports (e.g., ADA) and ensure compliance with state requirements Collaborate with administration regarding attendance concerns and interventions Respond to phone calls, emails, and front office inquiries related to attendance Issue passes (tardy, early release, admit slips) and maintain documentation Ensure teachers submit attendance in a timely manner and follow up as needed Maintain student records in compliance with district, state, and federal regulations Support general front office operations and provide customer service to families and visitors Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Knowledge of attendance accounting practices and California Education Code Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to manage multiple tasks and frequent interruptions Excellent communication and customer service skills Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records Proficiency in computer systems and data entry (PowerSchool preferred) Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff Bilingual in Spanish Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent At least 1–2 years of Experience in a school attendance office (school setting preferred) Experience working with student data system Familiarity with charter school environments preferred
