What are the responsibilities and job description for the Alterations Tailor position at KCT Menswear?
About KCT Menswear
KCT Menswear has been dressing Southwest Michigan since 1983. We're a family-owned formalwear retailer with stores in Downtown Kalamazoo and at Crossroads Mall in Portage, specializing in suits, tuxedos, wedding parties, prom and custom tailoring.
The Role
We're hiring an Alterations Tailor / Seamstress to handle alterations on men's suits, tuxedos and formalwear. You'll work across both of our stores (Downtown Kalamazoo and Crossroads Mall in Portage) and help make sure every groom, groomsman and prom customer walks out with a great fit. Part-time and full-time available, with more hours during prom and wedding season.
What You'll Do
- Alter suits, tuxedos and dress pants: hem, taper, and take in or let out waists and seats
- Shorten and lengthen jacket sleeves; take in jacket sides and backs
- Hem and adjust dress shirts and vests
- Read pin marks and fitting notes accurately, and help with customer fittings as needed
- Press and finish garments so they're ready for pickup
- Manage your work queue to hit wedding and prom deadlines
- Keep your sewing station, machines and tools clean and organized
What We're Looking For
- Hands-on alteration or sewing experience. Menswear/suit experience is a big plus, but we'll consider strong sewers who are ready to learn
- Comfortable with industrial sewing machines, blind-hem machines and hand finishing
- Detail-oriented with clean, consistent work
- Reliable and able to work to deadlines during busy seasons (prom: spring; weddings: spring through fall)
- Able to travel between our Downtown Kalamazoo and Portage stores
What We Offer
- $15–$25/hour depending on experience and skill level
- Part-time or full-time schedules
- Flexible scheduling
- Employee discount
- Steady year-round work with extra hours in peak season
- Training in menswear-specific techniques for strong sewers who are new to suits
