CNC Lathe Setup Machinist

A growing precision machining company is seeking a highly skilled CNC Lathe Setup Machinist to support operations serving aerospace, defense, and industrial customers. This is a hands-on role focused on complex setups, tight tolerances, and high-quality production in a fast-paced environment.
Position Overview
The CNC Lathe Setup Machinist will be responsible for setting up and operating CNC lathes with live tooling and Y-axis capabilities. This individual must be comfortable working across both horizontal and vertical setups, supporting a range of part geometries, materials, and production volumes—from prototype to full production.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full setups on CNC lathes, including tooling, offsets, and program adjustments
- Set up and operate machines utilizing live tooling and Y-axis capabilities
- Work across both horizontal and vertical machining setups as required
- Interpret blueprints, GD&T, and technical drawings to ensure precise part production
- Produce tight-tolerance components for aerospace, defense, and industrial applications
- Verify part quality using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges)
- Make program edits and adjustments at the machine as needed
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize setups and processes
- Support prototype, short-run, and production machining environments
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused work area
Qualifications
- 5 years of CNC lathe setup experience in a precision machining environment
- Strong experience with live tooling and multi-axis (Y-axis) machining
- Proven ability to perform both horizontal and vertical setups
- Experience working with tight tolerances and complex geometries
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T
- Hands-on, detail-oriented, and solution-oriented mindset
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, production-driven environment
Preferred Experience
- Aerospace, defense, or AS9100D-regulated environment
- Experience working with a range of materials including aluminum, steel, and specialty alloys
- Familiarity with continuous improvement or lean manufacturing practices
