Medical Biller / Receptionist (Full-Time | Certified Coder Required)($20 – $28/hr)
Multispecialty Practice – Primary Care & Behavioral Health
Overview
We are a multispecialty practice providing both primary care and behavioral health services, and we are looking for an experienced, certified medical billing professional to join our team. In this full-time role, you will manage the full billing cycle across multiple specialties, support provider credentialing, maintain CAQH profiles, and serve as a welcoming first point of contact for our patients. This position requires someone who understands the nuances of billing across both medical and behavioral health payers and is comfortable wearing many hats in a collaborative clinical environment.
Responsibilities
Front Office & Reception
- Greet and check in patients with professionalism and compassion, including those seeking behavioral health services
- Answer incoming calls, schedule appointments across multiple providers and specialties, and manage patient inquiries
- Collect and verify patient demographic and insurance information at each visit
- Maintain accurate records in our EMR/EHR system
- Handle sensitive patient information with discretion, particularly for behavioral health encounters
Medical Billing & Coding
- Accurately code diagnoses and procedures for both primary care and behavioral health visits using CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems
- Apply appropriate modifiers and understand payer-specific billing rules across medical and behavioral health plans
- Prepare, review, and submit clean claims to commercial insurers, Medicaid, Medicare, and managed behavioral health organizations (MBHOs)
- Follow up on unpaid, denied, or rejected claims and manage appeals across all payer types
- Post payments, reconcile EOBs and ERAs, and manage patient account balances
- Communicate with patients and insurers regarding outstanding balances and billing inquiries
- Stay current with behavioral health billing regulations, including parity law compliance and prior authorization requirements
Credentialing & CAQH
- Assist in the credentialing process for new clinical staff across all specialties, including gathering and submitting required documentation
- Maintain and routinely update provider CAQH profiles to ensure accuracy and active attestation status
- Track credentialing timelines and renewal deadlines to prevent lapses in provider enrollment
- Liaise with insurance panels, managed care organizations, and credentialing bodies as needed
Administrative Support
- Support day-to-day front office and administrative operations
- Maintain organized filing systems for billing records, credentialing documents, and correspondence
- Assist leadership with administrative projects and reporting as needed
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2 (where applicable for behavioral health records), and all applicable healthcare regulations
Requirements
- Certified Medical Coder required — CPC, CCS, or equivalent certification through AAPC or AHIMA
- Experience in medical billing and front office operations preferred; recent graduates with strong clinical coding training are encouraged to apply
- Familiarity with behavioral health-specific billing, including psychiatric CPT codes, mental health parity, and MBHO claims, is a plus
- Experience with credentialing processes and CAQH profile management a plus
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems and medical billing software
- Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer guidelines
- Compassionate, professional demeanor with the ability to interact sensitively with behavioral health patients
- Excellent organizational, multitasking, and communication skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in strict accordance with HIPAA and applicable privacy laws
