A typical human resources specialist is responsible for a wide range of organization development activities, such as employee compensation, recruitment (as it relates to policy), personnel policies and regulatory compliance.
Job Responsibilities
- Advise managers and employees on state and federal employment regulations, collective agreements, benefit and compensation policies, personnel procedures and classification program.
- Review and approve job positions, classifications, exempt or non-exempt status, and salary.
- Review and approve prepared occupational classifications, job descriptions and salary scales.
- Prepare reports, such as organization and flow charts, and career path reports, to summarize job analysis and evaluation and compensation analysis information.
- Negotiate collective agreements on behalf of employers or workers, and mediate labor disputes and grievance.
- Plan, develop, evaluate, improve and communicate methods and techniques for selecting, promoting, compensating, evaluating, and training workers.
- Provide advice on the resolution of classification and salary complaints.
- Verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Expert ability to work independently and manage one’s time.
- Expert knowledge of legal policies and procedures related to hiring practices (i.e., equal employment opportunity and affirmative action).
- Expert knowledge of benefit and pay-scale systems.
- Expert leadership and mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback.
- Previous experience with computer applications, such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent experience required.
- 10 years customer service related experience required.
