Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Clear and valid Texas commercial driver’s license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements (preferred)
College Hours, High School Diploma or GED
Must be 18 years of age
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Proficient in use of PC computer and Windows
Working knowledge and understanding of student transportation routing systems
Ability to work productively with little supervision
School Bus Driver Certification or able to obtain with six months of hire date This is separate from the CDL requirement
Negative results on drug and/or alcohol tests administered as pre-employment, random, post-accident and/or reasonable suspicion basis, in accordance with federal law and district policy
Ability to pass alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam in accordance to state law Cannot have a previous NEGATIVE result.
Ability to read and interpret maps, map grids and routes
Ability to climb in and out of all school bus emergency exits
Primary Purpose:
Responsible for assisting in compiling data to produce transportation routes, assist in creating routes that minimize time on the route while maximizing ridership; minimizing number of buses utilized and providing a safe and on-time route to and from school. Provide ongoing routing changes to meet changing needs of the district and patrons. Safely drive students to and from school on a schedule assigned by the Transportation Department. Safely transport students and staff to and from district sanctioned activities. Always act in the best interest of the district, the students and the community.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Proficient in operating routing system software.
- Perform checks of current routes and modify changing conditions.
- Assist in providing bus routes for new schools.
- Assist in entering street plats and address ranges.
- Assist in the preparation of the state reports for reimbursement.
- Converse with patrons and schools regarding bus route and bus stop issues.
- Operate any Katy ISD school bus and related equipment in a safe and efficient manner while following all traffic laws, district policies, district regulations and Transportation Department regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Equipment Used
School buses, emergency equipment (triangle reflectors, fire extinguisher, bodily fluids kit, etc.), two-way radio, wheelchair lift, securements, Personal computer, telephone, printer, copier, calculator and fax machine
Working Conditions:
Maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions. Repetitive hand motions. Prolonged driving and sitting. Frequent walking, standing, twisting, climbing stairs, stooping, bending, grasping/squeezing, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension. Repetitive hand motions, moderate carrying, reaching. Frequent exposure to extreme temperatures (both hot and cold), vehicle fumes, noise and dust. Irregular hours and occasional prolonged hours.
