Qualifications:

 

Bachelor’s degree in related field

Valid Texas certificate appropriate for education of the deaf and hard of hearing, TASC/TASC ASL

Ability to work effectively with school and community

Experience in providing instruction to students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Experience in providing instructional services itinerantly/parent infant coaching

 

Primary Purpose:

 

Provide instructional services to meet the needs of eligible students identified as students who are deaf and hard of hearing.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities: In addition to teacher job description.

 

  1. Adhere to local, state and federal guidelines in the delivery of services to deaf and hard of hearing students.
  2. Complete required local, state, and federal paperwork required for DHH students for program participation.
  3. Collect and maintain data relating to student progress in the areas of language and communication, listening, and Expanded Core Curriculum areas for DHH students.
  4. Plan and create instruction that meets the specific needs of DHH students who qualify for services.
  5. Apply knowledge of DHH Expanded Core Curriculum to assessments, services, & progress monitoring.
  6. Collaborate with general education teachers and related service staff, and parents to develop PLAAFP and annual goals/objectives for IEPs and to assist in providing an appropriate education for DHH students.
  7. Communicate regularly with general education and parents/guardians regarding student progress/needs/concerns.
  8. Serve on an itinerant basis according to the students’ individual communication modalities, programming, and services.
  9. Assist other school personnel in effectively meeting the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students.
  10. Develop standards-based goals and objectives.
  11. Assess students using expressive and receptive language sampling, and students’ preferred communication modality.
  12. Maintain professional conduct and attitude with team members and diverse population of students.
  13. Report progress on IEP goals/objectives and grades as stipulated by district policy and ARD documents.
  14. Prepare appropriate paperwork and attend ARD-IEP meetings for students who are deaf and hard of hearing. Maintain all staffing and IEP meeting timelines.
  15. Attend district required and job specific training & staff development (i.e. content training, structured settings, signing fluency, etc.).
  16. Keep current in the field of deaf education and be willing to apply research-based educational practices with DHH students; including Assistive Listening devices and amplification.
  17. Use various types of assessment procedures to determine students’ present academic and functional levels, language development needs, and maintain accurate and consistent records of data and assessments.

 

Equipment Used:

 

Personal computer, copier, printer, and fax machine. Adaptive equipment.

Familiar with technology teaching tools.

 

Working Conditions:

 

Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non ambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards. Daily driving in the district from one campus to another, including outside member districts.
