Responsibilities
- Perform professional grooming services including bathing, trimming, styling, and nail clipping tailored to each dog’s breed and individual needs
- Handle dogs safely and compassionately, utilizing animal restraint techniques to ensure both pet and groomer safety
- Assess each dog’s health and behavior, alerting veterinary staff or pet owners of any concerns related to skin conditions, injuries, or health issues
- Maintain cleanliness of grooming tools, work areas, and equipment to ensure a hygienic environment
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating clearly with pet owners about grooming preferences and aftercare instructions
- Assist with pet handling during grooming procedures, ensuring animals are comfortable and stress-free throughout the process
- Support additional animal care duties such as kennel cleaning or pet sitting as needed
Experience
- Prior experience in pet grooming is highly preferred; certification from a recognized grooming program is a plus
- Background in veterinary or veterinary technician work, veterinary assistant roles, or animal handling enhances your ability to recognize health issues and handle animals confidently
- Experience with dog training, animal restraint, and pet care techniques is beneficial for ensuring safe and effective grooming sessions
- Familiarity with animal handling across different species such as equine (horses) or small animals adds versatility to your skill set
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with pet owners and team members
- Physical ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary for handling larger dogs or equipment
