Duties
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care during overnight shifts, including administering medications, injections, and IV infusions with precision and adherence to protocols.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments by monitoring vital signs, evaluating symptoms, and performing physical examinations to inform effective treatment plans.
- Manage complex cases such as dementia care, Alzheimer's care, memory care, and patients with developmental disabilities or behavioral health needs.
- Assist with specialized procedures like catheterization, tube feeding, wound suturing, and sterile processing techniques while maintaining aseptic techniques.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner to document patient information accurately and efficiently.
- Coordinate discharge planning and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for post-acute care or hospice services.
- Respond promptly to urgent situations including acute pain management, airway management, ventilator support, or emergency triage scenarios typical of Level I Trauma Centers or ICU environments.
- Support infection control practices and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality.
- Provide education and health coaching to patients and their families on medication administration, chronic disease management, nutrition, and wellness strategies.
- Participate in ongoing training opportunities to stay current with ICD coding updates (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding for procedures, and advances in medical terminology and physiology knowledge.
Requirements
- Valid LPN license in good standing with the appropriate state licensing board.
- Proven experience working in critical care settings such as ICU or emergency medicine preferred; hospital experience including trauma centers is highly valued.
- Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth for accurate medical documentation.
- Strong knowledge of medical-surgical nursing practices along with familiarity in specialties such as geriatrics, behavioral health, infectious disease care, and hospice care.
- Experience administering injections, phlebotomy (venipuncture), catheter care, and IV insertion required.
- Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments including vital signs measurement and physiological evaluations.
- Excellent communication skills for effective triage and patient education; compassionate approach when working with seniors or individuals with disabilities.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods during overnight shifts; capacity to lift or reposition patients safely when necessary.
