**Investigate Applicants**
Serve as an impartial investigator of employment candidates and check
for criminal histories, application inconsistencies, omissions,
accuracy, etc.
**Obtain and Review Reports**
Collect relevant documents to determine candidates suitability for
employment.
**Write Summaries of Findings**
Clearly summarize and defensibly document findings from each section of
the background investigation.
Position Description
Investigator will communicate with the candidate for employment, to set
up a meeting to go over the Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ). The
Investigator reviews the candidates completed Personal History
Questionnaire in person, checking for inconsistencies, errors,
omissions, falsifications and minimum requirements to ensure accuracy
and completion of the PHQ. Investigator has the candidate execute all
the necessary release and authorization forms. Verification of documents
such as birth certificate, social security card, drivers license, high
school diploma, DD-214, etc.
In preparation of the investigation, the investigator obtains and
reviews arrest reports, NCIC reports, candidate reference
questionnaires, polygraphs, social media reports, Kansas CPOST, and
other relevant documents to determine candidates suitability for
employment on the Kansas Highway Patrol.
A substantial part of the background investigation process consists of
the investigator making contact with a wide variety of individuals,
including the candidates and their relatives, references, acquaintances,
teachers, neighbors, current/past employers, military acquaintances and
others. Investigators will make every effort to thoroughly interview
individuals in person or through other available means if unavoidable.
The investigator writes complete, detailed statements of these
interviews.
From information gathered the investigator appropriately summarizes each
area of the background investigation. The investigator clearly and
defensibly documents the investigative work. The background investigator
will clearly address all required areas of inquiry as they relate to the
background investigation. The investigator will compile required
documentation necessary to complete a thorough and complete impartial
investigation, using relevant documentation and prepare an investigator
recommendation for employment.
