Beginning Salary: $73,581.95/year
This position is located in Hays, KS and is supervised by the Public Lands Deputy Director. This position is accepting applications until April 17, 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides guidance, direction, and coordination in the management of wildlife areas and related projects within the region
- Supervises, coordinates, and evaluates Public Lands Division staff
- Ensures effective use of equipment, manpower, facilities, and properties
- Implements policies and coordinates with regional counterparts and public information personnel
- Administers planning, budgets, purchasing, contracts, and other business functions
- Participates in division management meetings
- Maintains communication with local, state, and federal agencies and constituent groups
- Provides training for employees
- Participates in recruitment and hiring processes
- Administers and participates in law enforcement activities, including investigations and court testimony
- Assists with administrative functions and special projects
Post Offer Conditions:
- If the selected applicant is not currently law enforcement certified, the agency will provide required training
- Upon conditional offer, the candidate will be screened and assessed for admission into the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center

Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 4 years of experience directing a field office with relevant operations
- Experience managing wildlife areas or public lands preferred
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a background check
Necessary Special Requirements:
- Must be certified as a law enforcement officer by the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Commission
- Must complete required law enforcement training and maintain certification
- Must be eligible to carry a firearm and meet all legal eligibility requirements
