Essential Job Functions
- Actively support KCPS District Interns at their assigned Board of Education Departments and summer school locations through daily site visits, observations, and professional development activities.
- Monitor interns at their assigned placements and provide support in internship performance and completion.
- Provide encouragement and insight for “on the job” duties and responsibilities.
- Enforce a conducive atmosphere that adheres to all district policies on behavior, student responsibilities and rules of the school district.
- Provide academic direction and evaluate work-based learning derived from internship expectations and academic projects.
- Assist interns in completing individualized, or work-related activities that focus on positive self-value, the demands of a working environment, modification and/or improvement of behavioral skills, personal characteristics, school, and work behaviors.
- Assist interns with soft skill development and work force readiness by establishing and reinforcing program norms and culture.
- Participate in internship reflection processes during and after the summer internship that help to support program improvement efforts that may be related to future internship programming.
- Accepts and willingly conducts special assignments or duties, when needed.
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.
- Maintains employee and student confidentiality.
- Knowledge of district offices, schools, and other locations that may require visits and validation of intern attendance.
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, inquiries, and/or complaints.
- Ability to manage, support, and provide positive reinforcement to high school aged students.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to identify and define problems, collect, and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions based on use information between students, staff, and summer school employees.
- Current KCPS District Teacher
- Education: Combination of degree and work experience in fields of education or Secondary teaching (teaching certification preferred).
- Experience and knowledge of team building, problem solving/developing solutions, and high-level student engagement.
- Prior experience with youth preferred.
- Will include travel between summer school sites
- Daily schedule will be no more than 7.5 hours each day
