Location: Primarily Main Campus; however, assignments may include any KCKCC location as designated by the appropriate administrator. Due to current instructional needs, priority will be given to candidates who are able to teach in person at one or more locations, including Main Campus (KCK), High School Partner sites (throughout the KCK Metro area), Downtown Campus (KCK), and the Pioneer Career Center (Leavenworth).

SUMMARY

Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is currently searching for an adjunct faculty to teach History courses as assigned by the Dean of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. There may be additional sections to be taught at any location including daytime, online, virtually and/or at area high schools.

This is a POOL position. Application materials for this adjunct position are accepted on an on-going basis due to increasing demand for courses in this subject area.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

• Conduct all class sessions according to schedule.
• Provide instruction, activities, assignments, and assessments to adequately cover all student learning objectives for the specific course(s) taught.
• Use teaching methods that emphasize application, cooperation, and collaboration. Engage students actively in their studies, encouraging them to become independent learners with higher-order thinking skills.
• Organize and explain content using methods which are appropriate to students with differing abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experience.
• Assign and provide feedback for in and out-of-class work, monitor student progress and maintain accurate record of students’ performances.
• Perform adequate assessment and analysis of assessment according to college requirements.
• Reflect on and evaluate the effectiveness of one’s own pedagogy.
• Willingness to uphold and fulfill the mission, vision, and values of Kansas City Kansas Community College.
• Ensure timely, accurate and complete submission of all reports to the appropriate office(s).
• Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Complete knowledge and understanding of the discipline of History.
• A thorough understanding of the vocabulary used in the field of History.
• Ability to arrive on time and be ready to teach course(s) during scheduled times.
• Ability to prepare curricular materials to convey learning objectives to students.
• Ability to effectively utilize Blackboard Ultra for posting assignments, assessing students, performances, and grading.
• Ability to think critically and solve problems independently.
• Ability to be organized and work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s or higher degree in History or a master’s degree in another discipline with at least eighteen (18) credit hours of History graduate coursework.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Teaching experience in an open enrollment, urban community college.
• Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard Ultra.
• Experience in learner-centered pedagogy.
• Prior experience teaching History.

WORK SCHEDULE
Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours. Your appointment is contingent on sufficient enrollments, or on program and scheduling changes.
