Duties and Responsibilities
Concrete Work
Position Requirements:
Education / Experience
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Successful completion of a recognized carpentry apprenticeship program is required.
Two years of work-related experience in concrete work, construction assembly and building maintenance is required.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as required by the State of Kansas for vehicle(s) operated.
Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools.
Knowledge of safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). The willingness to follow safety guidelines at all times.
Ability to maintain a clean and organized work area.
Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings or other structures.
Ability to read technical documents and drawings.
Ability to use a computer and enter maintenance tickets in the utility’s Enterprise Asset Management System (EAMS).
Must be able to work overtime, holidays and regular days off as required.
Physical Requirements And Work Environment
Applicants must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors with exposure to various weather conditions.

Duties and Responsibilities
Concrete Work
- Build and erect concrete forms for various structures. *
- Set forms and place concrete for sidewalks and driveways. *
- Repair cracks in concrete structures and manage the cleanup and storage of forms after curing. *
- Cut/pour concrete surrounding utility poles for installation and/or re-placement. *
- Perform maintenance on BPU buildings and grounds. Repair private property damaged by BPU crews. *
- Install and troubleshoot gate and garage door openers, etc. *
- Build, install or repair various structures like cabinets, benches and doors. *
- Practice good safety habits and maintain a clean work area. *
- Erect timbers, cross braces, and sheeting for temporary walls. *
- Layout, cut, and assemble wooden structures from blueprints. *
- Erect shoring for excavated holes that other departmental employees will be working in. *
- Erect scaffolding. *
- Operate a forklift and yard truck as needed. *
- Complete daily assigned work assignments and enter maintenance tickets in the utility's EAMS. *
- Perform other related duties as assigned. *
