Position Summary:
The Night Custodial Specialist is responsible for performing cleaning of interior facilities spaces within assigned areas of Kansas Athletics properties. This position is responsible for ensuring Kansas Athletics facilities are kept neat and clean at all times. Student-Athletes, Coaches, staff, fans, and guests value an environment that is safe, clean, attractive and pleasant. This position may also support cleaning during athletic competitions in various Kansas Athletics facilities and other events as directed by the Custodial Supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:
- Performs daily cleaning and custodial work assignments including but not limited to offices, conference rooms, locker rooms, restrooms, operations areas, sports medicine areas, equipment services areas, storage areas, hallways and corridors, entrances and stairs, donor hospitality spaces, and other spaces as assigned
- Ability to work independently and with a team
- Monitor inventory of custodial/maintenance supplies and make supply and equipment recommendations to the Custodial Supervisor
- Perform repairs and maintain various types of interior maintenance and custodial equipment, as needed
- Operate multiple types of equipment, machines, and vehicles consistent with employee’s valid certifications and licenses, including but not limited to foor machines, floor scrubbers, carpet cleaners, vacuums, reel cleaners, hand tools and other custodial related equipment
- Assist in practice, athletics event and special event, cleanup, maintenance, and assist in the coordination of event cleanup groups
- Work assigned events performing such duties as stocking bathrooms, keeping facilities clean, dumping trash and setting up special arrangements as requested for each event
- Performs other tasks as assigned by the Assistant AD - Facilities or their designee
Work Environment
This job operates in both a professional office environment, sport and athletic facilities, and outside at KAI related events, including inclement weather. This job requires flexibility and adaptability in schedule and the ability to perform job related duties on short notice.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This position may require frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 25 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; and working in all weather conditions.
Travel
Minimal travel is expected for this position for local Kansas Athletic Facilities and continuing education or training opportunities.
Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work will vary based on the needs of the sports programs and as job duties demand. Early morning, evening and weekend work is sometimes required. Normal shift time will be scheduled for 4:00 p.m. to 11:59pm (midnight). Shifts will adjust based on scheduled KAI-sponsored events and contracted third party outside events.

Qualifications:Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions
- Ability to safely operate multiple types of machinery and equipment, including but not limited to, walk behind and riding floor scrubbers, vacuums, reel machines and hand tools in a safe and efficient manner
- Ability to lift to 25 pounds on a regular basis and over an extended period of time
- Knowledge of and ability to use and determine the appropriate cleaning equipment and chemicals according to manufacturer’s recommendations and standard usage
- Ability to kneel, bend, squat, or twist for long periods of time
- Ability and willingness to work the night shift time of 4:00pm to 11:59pm (Midnight), weekends, and holidays as related and needed for scheduled Kansas Athletics events
Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid state issued driver’s license;
- A minimum one years of experience in janitorial or custodial services;
- Previous janitorial experience in an intercollegiate athletic facility maintenance, custodial service, or campus trade groups.
